Well, OK, I did over-react about locking this section, but it's been a bit ridiculous. There used to be a spree every once in a while, which I can appreciate can be fun since it usually went for maybe a day at the most and didn't really impact the rest of the forum and weren't very common, but nonsense activity has been relatively high the past few weeks, with many sprees. It would be nice to see it a bit under control, and promoting more discussion as this stuff should be done more in moderation and the balance is quite off. I can appreciate people being busy with other things, but activity is still high with the nonsense.
And don't think I'm trying to be a samaritan or something, a lot of my intention is so I can have something entertaining to read and kill time with. Just making my motive known.

First of all, humor is, by nature, one of the most subjective things imaginable. It's absurd to expect any given community to cater to your own personal standards just because you don't think it's being very funny. Also, if this forum were to be filled with things you found hilarious, some of us would probably be upset about this forum's apparent lack of humor. (To be honest, I don't like what I see when I look at the forum either, but that doesn't mean I think we need to meter it.)
Second of all, correlation does not imply causation. An increase in activity here is not necessarily linked to a decrease in activity elsewhere. On that note, a decrease in activity here would not necessarily increase activity elsewhere either.
Even if the supposed drop in activity in the "serious" forums (I haven't noticed it myself) is linked to the rise in activity here, I highly doubt that x serious posts are gained for every y silly posts that are lost. Many active participants infrequently make serious posts anyway, while many non-active participants infrequently make silly posts, so the link between silly and serious posts is not nearly as direct as it would seem.
Finally, all fads will pass. Although this one has been a multitude of them strung together, giving the impression that it has been lasting for quite a while, it will end on its own soon enough, and then everything will be back to "normal." There's no need to try and force it to end, especially when it's just relatively harmless fun. Just be a little bit patient. |

After thinking about it last night, I believe I have different views that I would like to bring up.
This is a community, right? Maybe this is a community that likes screwing around. If you don't enjoy what we're doing, there are certainly other parts of this community that would enjoy serious discussion. I personally enjoy serious discussion, but I like going in here every once in a while to let loose and chill with some of you guys.
You can't expect every community to be serious, however I do see your points.
You see, I agree with you, and I disagree with you. I think if we could find a place to meet in the middle, everyone will be happy.

I don't see the reason to change anything at all really at the moment.
Sure, the last 4 days have been retarded, but it's most probably temporary, and it will soon be back to it's normal self. That, and people change and adapt, the mere making of this thread probably helped to stem down on the so called retard posts and move towards better quality.
Let it flow, it'll fix itself.

My biggest beef with this forum is that people just get ridiculously carried away here. Random humor is good, but the problem is of late that whenever someone creates a weird random thread, you can expect within the hour to see 15 threads with nearly identical titles and subject matter. First there was the seriously something like four dozen "I am/You are" threads, then the "I am dog" and its ten or so clones. Now "TETRIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" has about eight entries. It just feels, at this point, like people are just posting to raise their post counts, while not actually saying anything funny/interesting. It's just getting out of hand.
