Why and How did nintendo get the idea to make all of the games weve playd over the years?

How could anyone think that eating a mushroom could make you grow 2x your size. Also its not possible to shoot fire under water?.

I'm sure it wasn't that hard to come up with something very imaginative back then ... but television (among other things) has ruined our imagination and we can only think of things that have already been made.
Popeye would get strong after eating spinach ... it's not an idea that different from Mario and mushrooms.

As far as the mushroom thingy goes... there a couple of different arguments.
One is that because mushrooms do strange shit to your body, you can like change form and stuff.
Another idea is that in reality Mario is constantly high, and things like mushrooms and strange flowers distort it even more until he starts to get strange abilities.
I prefer the latter.
