Have you ever played SaGa Frontier for the PS1? I have; and I have the actual disk too. I quite like it, although it can be extremely difficult at times and the story is kinda confusing. What are your guy's thoughts on the game?

For those that don't know, SaGa Frontier is an RPG developed by Square. It has what is called a "Free Scenario System", which basically means you can go pretty much wherever you want from the start of the game. This, in my mind, makes the game more realistic, as IRL adventures are like that.

Nope but I own a copy and it's on my to-do list. Damn my gaming backlog.

Blue's ending: Simultaneously my favourite and least favourite ending for any game ever!

Didn't play SaGa Frontier 1, but have the second game.
I quite like the mechanics as well as the really awesome graphics and nice music. The problem with this game, for me at least, is its very uneven difficulty curve. Sometimes battles are ridicolously difficult, you may even encounter Griffons, which cannot be killed normally (unless Arts and stats are really high for that point in the game). Yes, you can run, but I usually try to kill each enemy I see in my way. On the other hand many battles are fair, the bosses are actually interesting, although the final ones are quite tough - but again, SaGa is known for its difficulty levels.

From the SaGa series I'd definitively recommend Romancing SaGa 3 for SNES as well. This hooked me from the first minute on. I rarely had that intense boss battles in a RPG, and especially that awesome final boss was really worth to get through.

It's one of my favorites, actually; I even liked it back when it was hip'n'trendy to call it "the worst game ever made" back in the late 1990s. (It being Square's first traditional RPG after FF7 lured in so many idiots who'd never played an RPG... that did not help.) Hell, I even wrote a massive FAQ for it. Probably the internet's first full one, at that. And I was responsible for about 80% of TCRF's SaGa Frontier page.

My favorite chapter is definitely Red's. It's by far the most complete of the bunch (clearly, it was the one the developers worked on first; it shows), has lots of neat events, unique characters, and is pretty long, to boot.

Didn't care much for the sequel. I could see where it was going, but it had many gameplay elements that, while fine on their own, really clashed in the hyper-linear setting the game had going on. Too many throwaway characters and relatively arbitrary deaths, too. I swear, at least a third of the cast, including several main characters, get offed unceremoniously in entirely undignified ways. There's even an instance in which an arbitrary choice can lead to a useful playable character dying... despite the other two characters you can pick for the same event having no trouble whatsoever with the fatal battle... Beautiful artwork and music, though.

Awesome, I actually scanned through all of that page not too long ago, it was a pretty interesting read. Nice job.

Yeah I noticed that with the SaGa Frontier 1 also. It's what caused me to put it down for quite a while when I was younger... near the beginning I was cruising through enemies like they were nothing, then all of a sudden I was facing these insanely powerful monsters that could wipe my entire party out within a few turns. X_X Now that I'm older and a little more skilled at gaming, I've been playing it quite a bit.

I love SF. I've played the hell out of it. Beat every scenario multiple times, taken on different challenges (such as human/mech/etc only), challenges using only a certain weapon type, and more.

Wow, I've never found someone that attached to SaGa Frontier before. What was your favorite scenario?
