We weren't even testing for that.

Finally, I booted up my old MIPS emulator again with NT4 installed on it and tried to do some useful stuff with it.

Until a while ago, you couldn't really do anything with NT4 MIPS because you didn't have a browser (well besides Internet Explorer 2, which is not a browser). NT4 can emulate 16-bit, but this is so insanely slow that it's not worth bothering. (it also crashes frequently)
Well just now, I found a generous guy who compiled Lynx for NT4 MIPS. (It's a text browser, but hey it's better than nothing) With this browser I can kinda browse the Internet from NT4 MIPS, which is very cool.

I have a compiler so I could compile stuff here, however there isn't much you could compile. Otherwise, there's not much to do here other than playing around. But it sure is fun.

Did NT4 MIPS find any real applications at all, or was it a complete failure on Microsoft's part? (How short it lasted is probably a good indication of the latter, but I don't really know)

Well, when NT4 was released the MIPS was pretty much dead. Microsoft released SP1 and then dropped support outright. I haven't seen a lot of applications for MIPS - besides Visual C++, there are some servers (web, FTP, SQL), haven't seen anything else so far. It is mainly kept alive by enthusiasts that try to port modern applications over.

(also, did I mention that Lynx is very hard to use?)

Paulguy's Post configuration
elinks/links2 are generally a bit nicer.

I believe there's also an NT release for DEC Alpha.

There's also Windows NT for PowerPC.

I think it would be hilarious to get that running on a Mac.

Around 3.51/4, NT got released for everything ever in the hope it'd stick somewhere.

Naturally most of them were just gimmicky choices.

Paulguy's Post configuration
but most linux ports are gimmicky choices, like motorola 68000 and some microcontrollers and stuff. And yet, most of them seem to still work, unlike for Windows. Interesting how that works...

Windows working in general outside of safe 32-bit Pentium stuff is beyond the ability of Microsoft.

So could someone port this to N64?

On second thought, maybe N64 games would actually run natively on this thing?

Just think of the possibilities: you could play Solitaire on the N64!

Screenshots (even though you've probably seen them before):

It doesn't look any different from your standard NT.
