This is my second post other than comments. Pick your favorite video game series.

Too many. Mario, Zelda, Yoshi, Final Fantasy...

I went with Mario because it (SMB1) was one of the first non-edutainment games I played, at age 3 or so.

Phantasy Star is not an option?! (I mean, it's a longer series than Earthbound, anyway... )

But I suppose I would have to vote for Mario anyway. I mean, the series is basically the standard by which all other platformers, 2D and 3D, are measured.

Tough poll, but I've gone with Final Fantasy, simply because I love the character development.

Um, Gabe, if you have something to add to a thread when you just posted in it and nobody else posted after you, you should use the "Edit" button in the upper right corner of the post to edit the new stuff in, rather than making another post.

I don't like how you cannot vote more than once in this poll.

However, I did vote for Final Fantasy.

The Mass Effect series is high on my list as well.

Classic Sonic series

I had to go with Pokemon. It is the only series where I have never been to let down, and I always get at least 20 hours of fun out of.

This was tough. I mean, easily the Pokemon series is my most beloved, but I have a truly special place in my heart for the convoluted, confusing universe which is F-Zero. I definitely got hooked on the series in a great way back in the N64's heyday, and the really bizarre and wacky storyline that somehow actually WORKS even now really drew me in. The canon is kind of fucked to bits thanks to the anime, which I tend to regard as a separate continuity anyway. Still, I will always have a special place in my heart for F-Zero. I will also say that Donkey Kong himself is one of my favorite Nintendo characters of all time.

Kirby Super Star is a much better poll option than Kirby, logic notwithstanding. It was my obvious choice.

So I have a thing I ask every new person I meet.

What are the five best video/computer games of all time?

By far the most common answers are Final Fantasy VII and Super Smash Bros.

Ocarina of Time gets mentioned a lot, as does Chrono Trigger.

My list is Kirby Super Star, Cave Story, Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, Super Smash Bros Melee, StarCraft: Brood War.

Though I've been thinking of dropping Cave Story for something else to give better genre coverage. It's important to me but it's probably not the single best game ever. I guess if I could reasonably expect people to piece together top ten or top twenty lists off the top of their heads I would ask for them, and I stick with five just so that I'll get serious answers (not just Super Metroid x20. I like that game too but come on man.)

Other candidates are Roll Away, Final Fantasy X, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, Super Mario 64, Sonic & Knuckles... this list is not getting more genre coverage lol. I guess FFX is the only really reasonable substitute.

This is pretty far from the original point of the topic but whatever.

Kirby Super Star is the single greatest game of all time.

This poll fails a thousand times over for not including Castlevania or Mega Man.

(actually, it fails just for being a poll in the first place )

Eternally dueling for first place, like the white and black dragons of Mother 3's original story, are Final Fantasy VI and Metal Gear Solid 3.

FFVI was the first RPG I truly fell in love with -- the characterization, the gameplay systems, the music -- everything about it was perfect.

Metal Gear Solid 3 was the most satisfying experience I've had on the PS2, though -- as wild and crazy of a ride as it was, I believed in it. The suspension of disbelief was in full swing, from the first betrayal to Big Boss's shaky, tearful salute in the end. I had an emotional stake in that game, and when I beat it, it felt good.

Third place would have to go to Nier -- I know it's a recent game, but no other game this gen has hit me as hard as Nier has. Plus, the soundtrack is on the level of FFVI's, and that's a high, high compliment coming from me.

Fourth is Salamander on the MSX. It's the game that got me into side-scrolling shooters.

Fifth? ... Imma say NiGHTS into Dreams...

Because I feel like it.

This is -totally- off topic, and I am sorry.

"Kirby Super Star" is listed as a series.
"Namco" is listed as a series.
"Super Mario Bros." and "Yoshi's Island" are listed as two separate series. "Mario" would suffice.
"Halo" isn't listed but nobody cares about that.
"Call of Duty" isn't listed but nobody cares about that.
"Warcraft" isn't listed but nobody cares about that.
"Diablo" isn't listed but nobody cares about that.
"Secret of Mana" isn't a series, it's a game. Did you mean: "Mana Series"
"Chrono Trigger" isn't a series, it's a game. Don't say Chrono Cross is part of the Chrono Trigger series, because then Chrono Trigger is part of the Chrono Trigger series, and that sounds redundant.

I am also willing to bet every color was randomly picked in the poll...

Lack of Metroid. I am disappoint.

And if you can't tell by my layout, minipic, avatar and other miscellaneous things, I'm nuts about Metroid.

This poll sucks.

Also I'd say Kirby, but I don't like all the praise Kirby Super Star gets. Particularly when some smartass tries to pull off "AH THE REMAKE SDFSGFGSFG THE ORIGINAL SNES WAS SUPERIOR" what the hell?

Or when someone complains about Canvas Curse's soundtrack being pretty bad remixes of previous songs.

I can't decide, because both the Mario and Kirby series just make me so happy as a whole. Out of them, my favorite games would be Super Mario Bros. 3, Kirby's Adventure, Yoshi's Island, and Kirby Super Star (no particular order) and that's just for the first two generations. The only time I've really been disappointed by either series is when Artoon worked on the two Yoshi games.

Even though KSS is one of my absolute favorites, I was still very happy with KSSU. Revenge of the King made me giddy the whole time. And I love Canvas Curse's soundtrack. Tiny Town and Paletto Polis are probably my favorite tracks.

>>ESTABLISHING LINK...DONE.    >>FETCHING POST DATA...DONE.    >>EXECUTING POSTDISP.BIN...

My favorite series overall is probably Zelda, yet I don't necessarily like all of the games (and I'm not even talking about the CD-i ones) and not all of them equally. Link's Awakening is and stays my top favorite Zelda, with Ocarina of Time close behind - still tied with LA -, and I suppose Majora's Mask and Wind Waker are, with some distance, on 2nd.

Outside of Zelda, there's a whole lot of series where I thoroughly enjoyed at least some entries of. There's Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, Super Mario Land 2, Super Mario 64, there's F-Zero X, F-Zero GX, F-Zero GP Legend, there's Kirby's Dream Land 2, Kirby's Adventure & Nightmare in Dreamland, Kirby Super Star Ultra, there's Metroid Prime, Super Metroid, Metroid: Zero Mission, there's Mega Man Battle Network 3, the Mega Man Zero series, there's Pokemon Silver, Pokemon SoulSilver, Pokemon White, Pokemon Puzzle Challenge, Pokemon Trading Card Game, there's Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, Nippon Ichi games like Phantom Brave, etc., etc., etc. And that's just what came to my mind right now...

...it's futile, really.

If I only may pick one series: Zelda. Definitively. Although I was kinda not into 3D games back then really, Ocarina of Time just had that magic. So awesome, this was actually my first 3D console game I've to admit. I didn't own an N64 but had to wait until I had a computer capable of running an emulator (wasn't earning my own money back then ...). Closelfy followed by Link's Awakening, then ALttP, Zelda I and then II.

Not that I think Zelda II is bad, in fact I put it before for Oracle of Ages/Seasons, Minish Cap. Didn't play the other ones from the series, though. If OoT just wasn't to obnoxious about that "LISTEN!" by Navi ...
