FUCK.
Encyclopedia Dramatica is finally gone after 7 years of hilarity and controversy. Sherrod Degrippo, CEO of the website shut it down because, well here's a quote from her.

Which is fair I guess. The site has been replaced by Oh Internet, which is basically a heavily toned down version of the site, similar to Uncyclopedia or Know Your Meme, good God. While some have rejoiced from this news, I find it to be a bit off putting. Sure that website is offensive and vulgar and had tons of lawsuits on its hands; but it taught people the cold truth about the internet, and entertained them while doing so. That's hard to do if you ask me. Anyway, discuss. ____________________ Current Thoughts: If I had known it was harmless, I would've killed it myself.

Yes. It was hands down the most unfunny "humor" site I've ever seen. Between being insulting to everyone and everything, it was also loaded with stupid 4chan memes, disgusting imagery (the usual dick'n'boob fetish every other young male seems to have), and at the end of the day, many of the "articles" weren't even *articles*. I swear I once saw a page that was one word just repeated a thousand or so times, followed by a stupid image gallery. I can't say I'll miss that site *at all*. I often joked about it being "exactly what Wikipedia would look like if none of the vandalism was ever reverted, and vandalism was, in fact, welcomed".
Plus, there was their little "crusade" against autism, particularly Asperger's. By "crusade against", I mean "ridicule at all costs". And for those who think that's hilarious... how's about I start laughing at people with heart conditions or cancer and see how funny it remains to laugh at the disabled?

The whole thing does kind of smell like a late April Fool's gag, especially that strangely "sanitized" quote from the head contributor. I'd never expect the ED crowd to suddenly go down without a fight.

I agree that it was never actually funny. It was more of a shock and "hey bro check out this disgusting wiki of your mom" type site. I say good riddence, because of all of the attrocities of memes it repeated and created. Now the internet can be a bit more of a better and less disgusting site.
I don't really mind 4chan, at least it's out right and proud about it's porn.
