This isn't new. It's just a bit of an extension of the whole RealDoll thing that's been around for... well, ages.

(Oh, and Outer Limits did the whole "robot sex" thing first. But then the robot started killing people, and... yeah.)

...That's right. This was the post I was thinking of going back and editing... "themselves" was referring to the human race as a whole. "I think people can make what would amount to being realistic representations of (nonexistent) human beings" would be a more accurate way of phrasing what I was thinking

(Just look at RealDolls and how disturbingly human-like they are, for instance.)

Wow, I almost thought the article was about automatons, not societal manipulation. This guy is making some obvious attempts to dehumanize humans into being just mechanations of some ideas that the media came up with and trying to pass them as fact.

It's certainly not inevitable, as orientation and sexuality in general have been proven nothing more than a state of mind. A dog trying to mate a robot dog, sure, but humans aren't doomed to reverting to some preconceived instinct.

I'd have to agree, but remember, there are many people in the world that are shallow enough not to care. I can't see myself falling in love with a robot, but I can definitely see it happening to other people. And even if it doesn't get into romantics, sex with robots is inevitable, because of prostitution.
