I don't know if this'll be redundant or not, as there is already a general thread for the 3DS but - I just picked up my aqua blue 3DS and I am sold!
I will say - my husband has been much more excited than I about this. I have been generally "Meh" about the whole thing but after seeing it in person and playing it, I'm sold!
The AR cards are REALLY cool! And we picked up Street Fighter and Bust a Move as well! OMG Bust a Move is wonderful~! |

I think I'm going to wait until there's a few good games out before taking the plunge, but I'll be taking said plunge at some point in the future. It's funny - it's something I really want but not so much that I need to get it on Day 1.
Even if I wanted one today, looks like the stores downtown sold out. I'm not surprised.

Bust a Move? The Neo Geo game? I have the Neo Geo Pocket Color version, I wish I could play it on the 3DS.

I originally planned to hold off from buying a 3DS until a 3DS game that I really wanted was out (which would be around in June), or perhaps when I think I'll finally be in a position where I can hangout with people on a normal basis. Buuuut I caved in and bought a 3DS (I was feeling bummed out and my birthday was around the corner).
I don't have a 3DS game to go with it, but I don't feel like I'm missing out too much in terms of abusing the capabilities of the system (I'm busy with Pokemon). I had fun with the little features that came installed. I know I could entertain and impress other people with that stuff.
I do like that this just somehow feels better to hold than a DSi. The stylus, though.. I'm not a fan of how short it is. And it's troublesome to keep a grip on it.
Edit: Hey, I didn't realize that other more popular 3DS thread out there.
Edit2: And I just realized after all this time that I can extend the stylus length. Wish I knew that before hand!

The way it's set up, though, I honestly don't really see any way to require its use in a game.

You do, and you don't. The thing is that you actually see more of the screen with the 3d turned on.
This is difficult to explain but think about in real life where you have to stand back to see more of something, it's like that when you turn the 3D on.

Last Wednesday, one of my friends brought in his 3DS and I was allowed to have a go.
So loads of people complaing about never being able to find the 3D sweet spot. I cranked it up to full and found it straight away and it was so awesome. It had a Face Raider (or something like that) game, where you take a picture of one of your friends faces and then you have to move around your environment, shooting faces and beating the boss at the end. It was so awesome and I never lost the 3D look to it.
I'm hooked. The only thing stopping me from getting it now is the fact that I can't afford it.

It is very (and I mean VERY) easy to get headaches if you play with 3D on for moderate periods of time.
I know I had them after less than an hour, and I pretty much spend in front of a computer 12 hours a day =\

My only fear with the 3DS is that I get motion sickness pretty easily with some video games. I can't play Halo, Half-Life 2, Metroid Prime.. most FPSes really. A number of other factors makes me nauseous too, like cheap lighting. I don't fully understand how the 3DS works, have people reported becoming ill from it?
I can't comment on the lighting - though if you were fine with the DS, you should be fine with the 3DS - but if the 3D gives you issues, that can be disabled entirely using a little switch on the system itself.
