Talk about total character assassination, guys. Is the press really that bored?
In the future, Warhol said everyone would get 15 minutes of fame, but what he missed was everyone's 15 minutes of defamation.

I heard about this a while back here.
It's interesting, to say the least. I didn't know about the racist part, though. I think scandalous things sell, so ... |

| I have heard the racist thing before, though the bisexual bit is new. I also heard the racist bit was more like "he was a person living in his time". Sure, he was a racist, but he was not more so than was the norm. |

Well, "Mahatma" Gandhi was only human, despite the divine implications of his epithet. It's entirely unrealistic to expect him to not have any quirks, especially when one is something he couldn't have changed, and the other is the norm of the period. (He supposedly had a bunch of other, less potentially acceptable quirks too, but I won't go into those.)
Of course, that doesn't entirely excuse quotes like:Originally posted by Gandhi [The kaffirs']* sole ambition is to collect a certain number of cattle to buy a wife with and then pass his life in indolence and nakedness.
[They're] loafers... a species of humanity almost unknown among the Indians.
*A term for black people similar to a certain word used in America that starts with an "n"
...But it only means that, in this respect, he was just normal.
It's important to realize that despite how great someone may be, he or she will never be perfect, so not even Gandhi deserves a free pass when it comes to criticism. |

Gandhi wasn't perfect at all. And he DID sleep naked with young women.
Not to mention:
Originally posted by Gandhi I do not consider [name omitted] to be as bad as depicted. He is showing an ability that is amazing, and he seems to be gaining his victories without much bloodshed.
...The guy he was talking about? Hitler.
He rejected penicillin for his wife when she was sick. After she died, he was perfectly willing to take it himself.
His image has been favorably cultured by India since his death. He was an interesting person who garnered a reputation that he didn't really deserve, and has enjoyed much postmortem propaganda in his favor. ____________________ |

| | Metal_Man88's Post | Reality isn't perfect, but one need not assassinate the character of one by flailing all their faults at once.
Although it is possible the site at the top played up all the 'bad things' listed in the book and ignored the rest.

| That's probably right. If the author was defending what he wrote, it's more likely to be a pretty much neutral and far less damaging portrayal. |
