Anyways, I'm not sure if there's anything that can be found via hacking the game. I'm no good at hacking. Could this just be a bootlegged/hacked ROM gone wrong? Just thought I would throw this post on this forum. And also, a shout out to my Ex-ZSO pals Xdaniel and GB!

Sabin's mentioned friend here. As an addendum I checked out the game's data with the MAME debugger and a hex editor but wasn't able to find anything else relating to just what this game is. As poor of a state as its in I'm puzzled as to why it was even burnt to roms unless it was just seriously corrupted which is probable. There's no way in hell this is a Martial Champion prototype. It's just a very early, very broken clone by the same mysterious company that made Fit of Fighting (a very bad Art of Fighting bootleg), and may in fact be a prototype of that game. It runs on similar hardware, seems to use a similar gameplay engine, and has the same completely jacked-up graphics ROM layout.

Why would Konami develop a fighting game on crappy bootleg hardware when they've got plenty of their own designs to choose from?

I just did my homework, that's all. The source code for the MAME driver basically says the same thing, and I would generally trust someone who's actually seen the PCB for themselves.
