Several odd textures in what looks to be an old test area. While a test map similar to the one in Ocarina of Time is still present in Majora’s Mask, it doesn’t look quite as interesting as this.

Isn't that just a really early Termina Field? Always looked like that to me, anyway. Maybe this place here, to be exact (or nearby or so):

Hmm, where have I seen that before? Why yes, it's in the TCRF, in an area which normally cannot be seen in the final game:



So they did in fact plan to have the Clock Tower like that. They just never bothered to change the model afterwards since you cannot normally see it anyway.

I'm rather inclined to believe the official line in that it was just a tech demo, much like 128 Marios or Yoshi's Story GBA. Two character renders and a rather minimal scene do not make a game, and it's not like there was ever any question about whether there would be a Zelda game for the system.

I liked the windwaker's art a lot more than that demo. Windwaker still looks nice now.
