The games are quite low on water types actually, especially towards the beginning of the game.

It does provide a good number of normal types which should help beat the first gym easily though. :/

I only took the monkey, used him in the gym battle, then dumped it. With the new EXP system it does not really matter anyway.

I already won when I posted, and didn't grind. Really, it was pretty easy.

Lower defense of the monkey a bunch of times and there you go.

I play underleveled and in disadvantage all the time.

The status altering moves are a bit OP early game. I just used the move smug leaf learned to boost both atk and sp.atk untill I could take them down, if I got low on health I just used X drain move to get more life. 8D

FYI for people who aren't there yet/missed it. In the first "big" city, you can go down to one of the docks and get an evolution stone for whichever monkey you received. (I picked the wrong stone, oops. :<)

Though it doesn't seem to matter much, because I had 3 Fire Stones by the time I had gotten through the game.

My Sawk knows Dig but can only hit one of her three Pokemon with it in general, and Volt Switch is fucking ARGH

I need to train my Pokemon more or see if I can catch a rock type. Sawk dies due to Aerial Ace which sucks horribly.

The basic rock type you get at the beginning is AMAZING in that gym, especially if you trade and evolve it.

I had very little trouble with Elesa. She only used Volt Switch a total of once, and even then the Emolga that was brought out died in one hit due to my Heatmor's Fire Blast.

It went something like this:

Emolga 1 Volt Switches to Emolga 2
Heatmor OHKOs with Fire Blast
Switch to Conkeldurr to fight Emolga 1
Emolga 1 halves Conkeldurr's health with Aerial Ace
Conkeldurr OHKOs with Stone Edge

And the rest of it was just Zebstrika hogging all the Hyper Potions and killing Victini, while Dewott BARELY SURVIVED Spark and finished it. I had a lot of fun with the match, though.

Also caught a neutral Male Axew with Mold Breaker and named it Zolo, for obvious reasons. EV Training it in Attack now; I'll post my team updates later.

EDIT: Forgot to mention I also got the 6th Badge and Surf.
