I have both a 360 S and a Windows 7 PC i was just wondering how to do I hook them together to share media?

Note they are both hooked to the network by wi fi.

If xbox 360 can read file shares, I'd mess with that, otherwise you probably set it up through the Media Center program if your computer has it.

I have been trying, however both the PC and the 360 can not seem to find each other.

I remember in 2007 when I had my old Vista desktop it was just by one Ethernet Cable between the two devices, now when I try the same thing it does not work why?

Well, the difference between it working and not working depends on whether it's a crossover cable or a normal cable, if you're connecting 2 computers together.

I was linking a XBOX 360 and Windows Vista computer direct by one Ethernet cord between them is that the same as 2 computers hypothetically.

It is not the same cable as the one from a few years ago so I am thinking that the cable I was using then was cross over and the current won is a normal one.

I figured most devices would be capable of auto-sensing the cable type nowadays...

Yes Waffle I know. Both devices sense the cable.

The Xbox is incredibly picky. I don't think it can detect x64 computers, it wouldn't talk to my Windows XP x64 comp no matter WHAT I did.
