Well, very recently there was an aftershock with a 6.9 magnitude hit which is proving to be damaging, but the main story here seems to be that nuclear reactor. It actually IS melting down as we speak and teams of scientist are working very stressfully on how to fix it. Some pretty scary shit.

Also on the nuclear reactor crisis, the US airforce has claimed that they sent some coolant for the reactor, but Washington says that no coolant was sent which there is now an arguement over. How pathetic, a huge crisis, and all the US government can do is argue.

Dear Japan (and the rest of the world): As an American, I'd like to apologize on behalf of my entire country. I'm sorry that we're still a nation of jingoistic, racist, xenophobic scumbags.

The thing is the Japan's Nuclear Power Plants were never designed for an earthquake higher than 7.9 that is why this happened and they are lucky that more are not melting down.

Anyway I heard that republican have cut funding for the tsunami warning system that is based out of Hawaii.
Also i think we should pay and implement what Japan has for a emergency system for earthquakes because I shudder to think about what might happen in California or anywhere else in this country if one that is higher than 8.5 hits here.

Reading comments such as "the town where my friend lives has been annihilated"... I really can't...

I... can only hope the damage is minimal in the possible measures and that most people are safe, but... even then there are thousands of casualities and affected people...

... I don't even care about the ignorace of some fools. I just hope things go alright.

Crap, some of the aftershocks have caused other nuclear power plants to hit emergency state. Now they have about 6 different plants to deal with.

Also, this page by google has about all the information you need for the earthquake. Zoom in on the evacuation zone for the reactors to get the scope of how big this really is.

Trust me, I'm trying not to focus on those idiots, and just hope that the situation doesn't get any worse, especially with that giant risk of nuclear meltdown at those power plants.

I was freakin' awestruck by the whirlpool it triggered...

I mean it's pretty scary what can happen on this planet. My prayers go out to anyone affected by this disaster. Chances are my schools choir will have a song and Red Cross Fundraiser based on this.

Also, just read a Facebook post that something along the lines of, "Serves them right for Pearl Harbor. Those Communists bomb our harbor, we have God on our side." I was like, it has been 70 frickin' years, we nuclear bomb'd two of their cities, they weren't/aren't Communists at the time/now, and seriously, using the God card?!

I feel like our nation needs to apologize for some of our citizen's ignorance. But anyways, I hope that all goes well.

What.

The.

Fuck.

This is a fucking natural disaster. Not only is that an utterly despicable thing to say, but what the fuck made you think Japan was trying to get rid of others? Japan suffered more than any other country in this! World War II has nothing to do with an earthquake about 70 years later!

And he had the nerve to post that shit in public, too. What a moron.

That guy is an A HOLE pure in simple.
For the Fact that they are not even a threat to ANYONE as they do not even have a military anymore because of ban as stated in Article 9 of the WW2 peace treaty as a result the USA has all those bases over there.

That's... kinda a half-truth. In reality they do have what appears to be a national guard-like military that has a budget of 1% of their total GDP. Basically, they "possess only the minimum defense necessary to face external threats.", and probably has a good amount of supplies to help out their country in a time like this.

And this is basically the thread for the earthquake, not the military that they have, though we'll see how awesome of a job they may do in the aftermath of this disaster.

Right now, their entire military is being deployed for aid, they don't even have enough people left to defend the country. Also 18 of their jets were destroyed when a costal airbase got hit. That must be a huge blow to their military power.

I am a idiot it is actually as a result of the Article 9 of the Japanese constitution that forbids it which states: "The Japanese people forever renounce war as a sovereign right of the nation and the threat or use of force as means of settling international disputes", and also, "land, sea, and air forces, as well as other war potential, will never be maintained."

In practice however, the Diet (or Parliament), which Article 41 of the Constitution defines as "the highest organ of the state power", established the Self-Defense Forces in 1954. Although they are equipped as a conventional military force, they are by law an extension of the police force, created solely to ensure national security.

So it is like there version of the National Guard.

I think I just realized that japan is probably more prepared for this type of disaster than the US.

Remember how long it took them to fix katrina? If this happens to the US, they're screwed.
