I would wager a guess that if we looked back on this time period a couple of decades from now we would consider Tom Hanks to be one of the greatest actors of our time. He would kind of be a behind the scenes, sneaky nomination; but I have faith he would win.
Exhibit A: He knows how to pick his roles, when so many actors don't
Exhibit B: He has a wide range on the types of things he can play. He went from a childs toy in Toy Story to a battle hardened soldier in Saving Private Ryan and then at the other end of the spectrum he was a man looking for love in Sleepless in Seattle and You've Got Mail. Not to mention his excellent performance in Catch Me If You Can.
Exhibit C: HE WAS WOODy FROM TOY STORY!!!!!

This thread will probably be more relevant to American users.

What about Daniel Day-Lewis? Even though he's been in fewer movies, all of his performances have been absolutely fantastic and carefully prepared. DDL is one of the most hardcore actors in the industry, ever.

Adore Tom Hanks. His run from 1992-2002 was incredible. I wish he made a full live action comedy though. He has made some films with comedic elements but I sorta just want that full blow comedy oriented film (no comedy-drama) just for old time's sake.
