Looking up Minecraft info... hit or miss really. Some people report decent performance, others crap. Likely depends how new the netbook is.
As far as classic emulation goes, I've seen people playing NES and SNES games on netbooks before. No problems at all there, trust me.

My only portable computer is a netbook , and I much prefer it to the 15" laptop I used to have. It's light enough that I can throw it in my backpack and not really notice it's there, not to mention the several hours more of battery life it gets than the old laptop.
I don't own Minecraft, but I can run SNES games without problems.
One thing to watch out for as you're looking around is the keyboard layout. Some models have very... creative ways of fitting all the keys into the required space (such as shrinking the backspace or shift keys) that would drive me mad if I had to type on them.

I have an HP Mini, and it runs Minecraft at 4fps or so, and no$gba is very very laggy. Some flash games are unplayable, some are reasonably laggy.
This is my experience. I guess it depends a lot on the actual netbook model and manufacturer, but if you want to use it for some gaming, you'd better not get an HP Mini. |

 | Go for it.
I'd shoot for Toshiba, personally - they're, as far as I can tel, the only manufacturer to move up to dual-core hyperthreaded Atoms. GMA X3100 isn't too terrible either, especially over the GMA950 most netbooks used to have. Some have a Radeon card, but... they're generally Acer, and my experience with mine is practically a straight downward slope. Some have great luck, though, so... maybe it's just the AOD250 that's kinda bad?
