From a flash drive.

I wanted to transfer some files from my computer to hers, so put them on my ordinary 1GB Sandisk flash drive and inserted it into her computer. The moment I stuck it in... blue screen out of nowhere.

I have plugged this same flash drive into dozens of computers, and have never before had something like this happen. She refused to let me try again.

Has anyone else experienced freak crashes from doing ordinary things?

Daily Cycle II ~ 3292
It's possible the system is overstressed power-wise and inserting it was enough to cause a problem.

My 1 GB stick caused an interesting problem on the other computer; if it was plugged in, the computer would just halt on boot... but as soon as it was removed, poof! It instantly started booting up.

Amusingly, the printer is sometimes seen as "Mass USB storage device" on that computer, too. Usually after I use the memory stick.

Just like you, it worked fine everywhere else and had even been in use for a good year or more. Still works fine to this day, even.

That actually wouldn't surprise me at all, since it was a laptop running on batteries.

Machi-Machi v. Kyan!
Actually you can short out the entire motherboard if the power decides to be awry. Hell, I've seen USBs short out from improper wiring. That's fun.

Though it's likely not the case here. It might have tried loading device drivers at a bad time, to be frank. I have a feeling she probably hasn't had a USB stick ever put into her system...and if she did it must have been some other device driver that caused a possible conflict which tried to determine your stick as it. She might've had some RAM issues or something as well. That's pretty much my only guess on that one. Unless your stick had issues with malware or viruses I think that it was probably just bad timing. Not your fault her comp sucked.
