If this plays anything like those "FLUDD-less levels" from Sunshine but with a full on 2D Mario feel, it's going to be fucking amazing.

I've wanted a 3D Mario game that plays like a 2D game for a long time now. The Galaxy games had the general concept with the straightforwardness, but felt to me like a 3D Mario game with limited exploration.

3D linearity is something we really haven't gotten yet, and with how many super mario games there are...

well, some changes would be nice at least

i remember someone brought up super mario galaxy 2 (maybe yahtzee... memory's so fuzzy) didn't do as much as it should. every three-dimensional super mario game has always been about getting 120+ somethings, but rarely about progressing through a world like all of the 2D games

i'm not going to get my hopes up high, though. with ocarina of time 3ds coming out (holy shit same game!!!!!!!), there's only so much i can realistically hope for

Yeah, I could go for a mario game kind of like world or 3 but 3D, without funky awkwardness like galaxy. The mario 64 level design was good, though, and had some decent linear levels.

I really liked the Bowser stages of SM64- I wouldn't mind seeing a whole game with that sort of mechanic.

I'd like SMS FLUDDless-style levels if they don't make them frustrating. Never again am I going to go blue coin hunting (or whatever collectible they'll use this time) in those types of levels.

Exactly the same vibe I'm getting from those screenshots - and the tail in the logo strongly suggests Raccoon Mario.

Possibly SMB3-style in 3D? Could work.
