My new nVidia Geforce 9500GT is quite nice for many games.
Escape Velocity Nova is not one of them.
I get a lot of flickering horizontal lines all over the screen whenever I play it in fullscreen. Windowed is fine. Screenshot.
Imperishable Night also has some interesting issues on the menus, but at least it's fine in-game. Interestingly, though, that game's issues are there both full-screen and windowed.

EVN doesn't use a disk, so I'm reasonably sure that's not going to be the issue.
Orlandu: I'm on XP, which the (Windows port of the) game was originally released on AFAIK. Likewise, before the video card upgrade, I didn't have any problems. So I'm reasonably sure it's not an OS issue.
paulguy: So far I've just tried turning on VSync, which fixed nothing. I don't want to dick around too much with it without guidance because I'm trying not to screw anything else up; this is the first time I've ever had a non-integrated video card, so I'm really not sure exactly what I'm doing.
Edit: Right, also tried changing the refresh rate, but that didn't help either.
The weird thing is, if I set it to 1024x768 Windowed, it runs without a problem, but the same resolution fullscreen causes this.

Just a thought, but if I remember correctly, I've seen something similar when my dad overclocked his video card. Could be wrong though, it was quite a while ago.

Can you change the resolution of the game itself to match your desktop resolution? I'm guessing it has something to do with a scaling issue, then.

That is my desktop resolution - windowed was 800x600 before.
Windowed it's fine. Fullscreen 1024x768 isn't. Fullscreen 800x600 has the same problem.
