I've been given a prescription for EpiPen which is a shot that I shove into my thigh in case I get a severe allergic reaction. I've never had a problem in the past and this is mainly used in case I get an allergic reaction from Xolair, which a shot that I get every month. Nifty.

I hate shots and I don't really know why . Having to carry around an EpiPen doesn't sound like much fun. I hope I don't have to get one in the future...

Sounds potentially life-saving to me. If not for you, there's always the chance somebody severely allergic to bees gets stung, or allergic to peanutbutter touches such, etc. etc.

Stupid anaphylactic shock.

I don't have much problem with shots I get at the doctor's, I just try to concentrate on something else and look the other way. I couldn't imagine giving myself injections though.

Last shot I got was a tetanus shot when I went in for my infected foot. Didn't hurt when I got it, but damn was my arm sore later.

Drag's Post #306
One of my friends is allergic to peanuts, and half-allergic to eggs (can have stuff with eggs in them, like cookies, but can't have an omelette or anything), and he's always carried around an EpiPen, and I mean *always*. He says he doesn't mind carrying it around, but considering he's always had these allergies, I think he's had a lifetime to get used to carrying it around with him.

To be honest, I'm glad he always has it with him. I mean, he usually doesn't get put into any dangerous situations, but he'll at least not be completely doomed if anything happens.

Edit: On the topic of shots, I usually wasn't really scared of it. What I WAS scared of, however, was needing to have my blood sampled. The way they did that back when I was in elementary school was by taking a sterilized needle and pricking my finger. I hated it because it was on the tip of my finger (the most sensitive part) and it really stung. Possibly because of the rubbing alcohol they used to clean my finger beforehand. Compared to this, getting a shot in my arm was a walk in the park. I never had any problems with it.

Also, at some point, they got some newer technology, and instead of taking a needle, they'd use a small disposable plastic button-operated prickamajig which did the prick, but it never hurt more than a small pinch. I liked this *much* better.

I got my last shot when we had a meningitis scare a couple of years back. Very painless and easy, just a little soreness for an hour or two afterwards.

But let me get this straight... you need to carry around a shot IN CASE another shot they give you causes problems?!? That's very odd...
