Not directly. It can just be helpful--to recognize words where there is seemingly only gibberish by virtue of just figuring out the word length and the starting and end letters for it.

And leet in video games? Yeah, that's not going anywhere. It just used to flood message boards.

I get what you're talking about. I don't think understanding l33t is the only way to understand those posts; admin experience on a popular website can help you understand those idiots as well.
