Hey, if you update your firmware you can play this disk.

To quote the Consumerist:
We just have one question: What are the odds that Samsung and other manufacturers of blu-ray players are always going to be ready with new firmware for all of the players they have ever manufactured?

Sigh. This is why I hope that blu-Ray at least takes a critical blow to stop crap like above from growing popular.

Drag's Post #309
To be honest, I'd like to see DRM as a whole just die out. It doesn't work, it never worked, it won't ever work, and all it does is add extra labor for everyone; the producers as well as the customers. It's just a huge, broken, failing pain in the ass, and nobody seems to realize that.

Digital Rights Management? Beh! More like Digital Restrictions Management!

I'd like to see DRM die out eventually...

It doesn't work, as people can crack it, remove it, and all it does is provide a roadblock for everyone. It was a stupid idea in the first place...

Digitally Ruining Media.

Yeah, once again, Sony shows more interest in DRM than in what's best for their customers.

Good. I hope they do this with all discs. The last thing we need is Sony winning a format war. Stupid DRM lovers... I'm not one who advocates stealing music, but I, a paying consumer, wish to be able to at least play it on most players..

I still express amusement at how only the people who actally buy things get the shaft, whereas pirates are almost gaurenteed a working copy.

Funny how things work, sometimes.

<redvsblue> See, blu-ray is old, red-ray is where it's at. =p </redvsblue>

does Sony even realize that copying a CD is pretty much only illegal in America? And it's funny how they call them "CDs", what sony does to them makes them not officialy CDs anymore.

Aside from a few MMOs that no one has gotten to use custom servers, so many things are easily pirated to at least partially work.

I don't think I'll be using blu-ray too often for movies without an HDTV. Though my PS3 can do it if a must-have title comes out.

Pff, my DVD player outputs 420p, 720p, and 1080i, so if I have an HDTV, I can watch DVDs in HD, without bothering with the whole format war.

Yay upconverting.

I think a lot of aspects of capitalism don't work well with something that can be easily and infinitely copied, such as any digital data. You can't stop people from copying things when it's so easy!

I'm really angered by copy-protection schemes that work by including Windows and Mac player software in addition to the raw data for standalone players, as I'm on Linux.
