My dad is kind of weird in his old age. Every day when he goes to work he calls home at least twice to see how we are doing and he just chats. At first I thought it was kind annoying, but now I find it kind of sweet because he is not really the type of person that shows his affection well. This I suppose is a way that he shows that he loves my mom and I. Do your parents do the same thing? I know most of you live by yourself, but do you call or do your parents call often?

I talk to my mom on AIM pretty much daily. She loves and supports me a lot, even from so far away

My dad, on the other hand, doesn't talk to me. He's bad at keeping in touch with people just in general, and after I revealed my "secret" a few months ago he's been silent.

Since I've been away for school I usually talk with my parents on the phone once a week... though it's me who calls them, not the other way around.

I talk to my mom and my sister rather frequently. I think I talk to at least one of them daily. My conversations with my sister are usually much longer, though.

That is a shame about your dad. Hopefully he will come around. ^.^

I keep up with most everybody in my family just fine, 'specially my grandparents when I'm not around.

Dad though...I never know where he is and what he's up to. It doesn't bother me, it's just par for the course. I'd rather not delve into why here, thank you very much.

It's an enigma
----------------------------------------------------
I love seeing my parents every once in a while, and I enjoy talking with them on the phone now and then.

Unfortunately, me and my mom are still at that phase where I'm trying to establish independence and she's not ready to let go, so I'm pushing away a little and she's trying to pull back and things get difficult now and then

But I know she means well, which is better than 99% of the alternatives I suppose.

I live at home so it is easier for me to be in contact with my parents. I think that when I move out I will still keep in close contact with them. My parents and I are pretty close because we have been through a lot. I am grateful that I have this kind of relationship with them now. The majority of family homes are divorced or separated in America. I am lucky that I still live with a mom and a dad that still love each other...

My dad calls every once in a while. If too much time has past, I'll call him. Usually we talk either every week or two weeks.

My father tends to text me randomly because we rarely talk, just to ask if I've been okay or whatever.
My mother I talk to for hours on end though.

I call my grandparents a lot in addition to my parents. I am incredibly close to my grandparents and I take most of my family values and parental raising skills from them. I admire my grandfather so much. He is a great man that is 85 years old and still crawling around in attics as an electrician even after he just had 2/3 of a lung removed due to cancer. He and I built a church together and even though I don't believe in God anymore, going on the job with him and learning his trade will always be some of my most cherished memories. He would always take me to work with him since I was 6 years old. He is incredibly patient and never raises his voice to anyone. My mom says that she only heard him raise his voice 3 times in her lifetime as far as she can remember. I get really sad sometimes now that my grandparents are getting older and more frail because I have never really thought of them that way so I make sure to call often so I can make sure they are alright. They love talking to me and we can talk for hours. I think I am the only grandchild that calls them regularly.

My grandparents are wonderful people. I actually live with them, if that tells you anything!

Most of my mother's side of the family lives within the same 20-mile radius, so it's not hard to visit my family at all.

All of my family is really far away, geographically. The closest relatives are my mom's sister and her batshit husband and daughter in California, and everyone else in Michigan/Indiana/Illinois.

I'm fine with it, though. I was always the black sheep of the family and I'm only really close to my mom anymore.

My dad texts me pretty much every morning. He calls from time to time, as well. He just likes to know that we (my wife and I), still know he exists . I guess it's just a parent thing, once you're kids are out of the roost you still want them to be involved with you. I get that.
