So, what about some of the games that you remember from when you were younger. What games do you remember, what games did you like and dislike, which games were the best at that time.

I'm going to start with Duck Hunt. the first time I played this was at my grandmothers house. The most vivid memory I remember is actually being able to hit one of the birds after about 45 minutes of playing. After that I have played very little of it because the gun broke and would not register a shot anymore. Meaning infinite laughing dog for me.

Not sure why, but the first thing that came to mind was Space Taxi for the C64. I honestly don't remember much about it, only that it was really difficult for me - maybe because I was something like 5 or 6 years old back then. It was kinda fun, I suppose, but I never went further than one or two levels.

Then there's - of all things - some business simulation games I played as a kid, also either on the C64 or on the Amiga. Oil Imperium, Hanse, Winzer, some hotel management one (forgot the name), etc. I was a little kid, so I didn't really last long in those, tho they were sorta interesting

Later on, on the Amiga, besides the obvious ones like Lemmings 2 or Zak McKracken, there's two games stand out to me: P. P. Hammer and Traps 'n' Treasures. Those two games I can and will totally recommend even today: the former is a very solid puzzle platformer with, while not mindblowingly awesome, some very memorable tunes; and especially the latter is a wonderful, well-balanced platformer that even has (if I remember correctly) a certain amount of more open Metroidvania-ish level design to it in latter levels. And the SFX you hear when you're hit at low health - as heard latter in that video - is basically my version of Sonic's underwater countdown

Cool thread I'm a retrogamer and often have little to say in this forum, which tends to be dominated by discussion of current-gen games.

I grew up with the NES and Commodore 64 in my early years. My favourite games were SMB1 on the NES and Below the Root (an adventure game noted for its lack of violence) for the C64. In both cases, I liked exploring the game world as much as actually playing the game. In Below the Root, you're trying to save an important leader on a planet with people living in gigantic trees with primitive technology and psychic powers. You have to go around and find characters and animals to develop your psychic powers in order to do things like read minds, make plants grow, and teleport. Eventually I knew the game backward and forward (to the point that I have an FAQ for it on GameFAQs), but I still play it occasionally.

I pretty much grew up with an NES controller in my hand.

I still have that, but I have 370 NES games now! You know, it's kind of funny. I remember when I was a kid and I didn't have many games at the time. A friend at the time was given a big collection of games (maybe around 40/50 or so) and I was so impressed by that! Fast forward to 2011 and I probably have one of the biggest collections in the immediate area.

I have so many games that I loved and played as a kid that it's difficult to really just talk about one or two. One favorite game that springs to mind however, is Dudes With Attitude. I never really got the hate for the game. I thought it was a simple puzzler that was a lot of fun to play. Also, the game had a level editor! I would spend hours just playing with that level editor and having a wonderful time with it.

I remember that my biological father had a C64 and we'd play games on it when we visited him (my parent's divorced when I was 3) but I don't remember what games specifically. My brother would know, he was older and played it more.

I do remember this guy at home though:

We wouldn't actually stand on it but use our hands to tap them instead. We had the usual Excitebike, Mario Brothers, Duck Hunt, etc. My friend had an Atari and the game I remember playing the most was Pitfall. I grew up mostly on SNES and Playstation though, which aren't quite as retro.

There was one NES game that stood out for me, and that was Mach Rider.

I also played the usual SMB1 and 2 (not 3, didn't have that one) and some other games, but Mach Rider was the one game for me.

I was born with a NES controller and raised with obscure NES games. Some good, some bad, and many that became Nico Nico Douga memes.

Quarth (fun), Lode Runner (eh), Milon's Secret Castle (oh god the well), Mighty Bomb Jack (YOU ARE GREEDY), Arkanoid (AFTER THE MOTHERSHIP "ARKANOID" WAS DESTROYED, A SPACECRAFT "VAUS" SCRAMBLED AWAY FROM IT), Legend Of Kage (HOWEVER....), MACH RIDER, something I don't remember the name of that I could describe as Mach Rider meets Gradius, Ikki (the definition of Kusoge), and a bunch of other stuff that came in a pirate multicart.

I didn't have very many NES games growing up. All I needed were Super Mario Bros. 3 and DuckTales 2.

There was also some kind of burger game, but I don't remember much about it at all.

Oh! Arkanoid, of course, forgot that one - played the C64 version back in the day and loved it, same goes for a somewhat similar game called Crillion (also C64) that I just remembered. In that game, you controlled the ball which just kept bouncing straight from top to bottom; no going off-screen either, for that there were insta-kill blocks instead. Also, the blocks were of different colors, so you had to hit a color changing block, then destroy the blocks of that color - if you were unlucky, you start out with a color that's not available via a color changer, then accidentally hit one of them before you cleared all the now indestructible blocks. Really sucks, believe me

BurgerTime, I assume? I own the game. It's a weird little thing that's for sure.

When i was a kid I either had a Game Boy in my hands or was playing SNES.
I'm not old enough to go very far back, but my most memorable games are probably..

Super Mario World, Joe and Mac: Cavemen ninjas, Donkey Kong Country, Star Fox, Duck Tales and Wario Land.

Those are off the top of my head, the games I remember playing from the times I barely remember. x3

You know, now that I see the pic of the Power Pad that Orlandu posted, I need to drag out the power pad that I got while I was in Oregon about six months ago and play around with it. I mean, really, I need to play more of the World Class Track Meet thing.

I kinda wish I could nab a Stadium Events cart. I can't imagine getting my hands on it now except for as a repro cart. I'd go right into debt getting myself one of those things.

That's a tough game for a 4 year old. I never beat it until I was 6.

I didn't actually get Super Mario World with my Super NES. And even when I got my SNES, I was seven or eight.

That dates me a little, doesn't it?

I never got an SNES until around 1999. We bought it used with Zelda III. We did get SMW later.

Well, "beating" meaning I beat Bowser and saw the credits roll. I know I went through the Star World, but how I got there is kind of a blur.

I want to discuss Super Metroid here, but my history goes back much further than that, to the first moments of my life that I still retain: sitting in front of a screen, with Mario on it.

My current N64 is broken, which is a shame.

On that system, I actually have every game that I want aside from two; ClayFighter: Sculptor's Cut and Killer Instinct Gold. I can never find them though, as the latter almost never shows up in any place that sells used games that far back and the former is way too rare to show up in one and is rather expensive.
