It is very rare to find a video game release that is original these days. Usually corporate pocketbooks do not like to try anything new because they are afraid of not making a profit. So Jul, I ask you this. What kind of video game would you make? Do you have a great idea for a game?

A game where some Jul users have to fight the seven evil TCRF admins, kinda like Scott Pilgrim style.

In fact, that was the original plot of Scott Pilgrim.

That kinda throws away the whole 'original' idea of the thread then.

I've wanted to make a science-fiction game about someone collecting treasure from abandoned mines patrolled by robots for a while. I suck too much at programming and graphics to actually make it, though.

In all seriousness, I think it'd be kinda neat if it were some kind of crazy mass-fighting game or something in a battle royal style. Not like Super Smash Bros., its own system or something.

What would the story be for that game? Why are the robots there? I am intrigued...

Not a side-scroller sort of layout?

If I designed a game It'd probably be pretty unoriginal, I'm terrible at making absolutely fresh stuff. But it's hard to do that anyway now, it seems.

A game with Zelda-style 4-direction action (I say "Zelda-type", but I'd prefer things like smoothly-scrolling areas rather than defined rooms) on the overworld (which would be made up of various connected maps rather than a large overworld map with towns and such linked to it), but with dungeon-type areas switching to a side-scrolling action area. Story progression would be closest to that of a 16-bit console RPG. It all makes sense in my head, but being able to actually make it is another story entirely.

Actually, I think it would fit Jul better because it's a crazy clusterfuck of fun here, but in a good way! I mean, why not recreate the fast-paced action?

The storyline could be that people are trying to make #1 on the JCS for the entire month of [month], and so they all fight for the honor! XD

I would make a game where the player must survive the creation of the planet, RPG style.

If I were to make a game, I'd make it ala arcade games. You know, where it is fast paced, quick, easy to pick up and play for 30 minutes at a time, then be done to come back to it later and try to get better at it.

Games that do this tend to get the most play time out of me. Magical Drop III, Tetris Attack, Pac-Man Championship Edition DX, etc. Convoluted plots wouldn't be a part of the game, and if they were they would be silly and not in depth. That takes away from the fun.

A game about creating a game. Somewhat like Segagaga, except more about the actual game. You'd get to play it as soon as it is in a playable state, and see how it changes by yourself.

And not only that, you can make said game about creating a game, too, and it'd end up looking like the game you are playing, meaning you could also create yet another game about making a game by playing the game the player made, and play each of them like the same game, with their save files inside each other.

Doing so 15 times breaks the universe and you are locked in playing NASU as sort of a non-standard game over.

Ok, that's stupid. But removing the idea of meta-gaming, a game where you make a game along the story and play through it in its different stages of development is something I would've found interesting.

That makes me imagine an RPG in which your actions generate the world slowly. So you start out in a blank world and as you interact with 'undefined' characters (possibly ghostly particles?) it grows and they become fleshed out along with a storyline and the world.

Having programmed a video game before, not making one sounds like a more fun idea.

Well, I mean, if I could have my idea magically become reality, sure.

But otherwise? Nahhhh.

I've been kicking around the idea of an RPG for a while, but I doubt it could be called 'original'.
