I tend to get addicted to games of the strategy genre. Back when Zeus: Master of Olympus was new-ish, I played that a lot.

    Let's see.

    Fallout 3
    Oblivion
    and Minecraft

But mostly because they have no endings.

Had a bunch of games like that over the years... On top of my mind, roughly sorted oldest to newest obsession:

    - SimCity 2000 (PC-DOS, distinctly recall playing this until sunrise at least once, when I was 11/12-ish)
    - Zelda: Link's Awakening (GB)
    - The Settlers II (PC-DOS)
    - Pokemon Generations 1 and 2 (GB/GBC, mainly Blue, Silver and Crystal, finished the TCG one New Year's Eve on the toilet )
    - Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64)
    - Tetris DX (GBC, emulated, had a 9999999 score, level 99 save I kept playing for a while, no cheats)
    - Metroid Prime (GCN, kinda keep picking this one up again every two or so years for a playthrough)
    - Pokemon SoulSilver (DS, when it came out it was probably the first game to really get me addicted in ages)
    - Z.H.P. Unlosing Ranger vs Darkdeath Evilman (PSP)

Phantasy Star Online. I think I have like 500 or so hours of playtime between the original DC, GCN and Episode 3 versions.

PSO, like he said, I spent about 480 hours on it. I even got the keyboard and ethernet modem for the Gamecube, and even used the component cable for best appearance on it.

Civilization 1: As a kid, I'd play it for 7-8 hours at a time, despite never getting anywhere in it.

Simcity 2000: I could never stop playing it for a while; I played it on PS1 and then forever on the computer, until I eventually became distracted by the inferior Simcity 3000 and Simcity 4.

Shadow the Hedgehog: I beat it inside out and backwards and forwards, then beat Expert Mode, got pretty much every key in the game, and 50ish of the paths in it as well. It's just fun to mindlessly blow things up.

Starcraft: I recall spending many hours on it, going from map to map. I even got DSL just so I could lose at it faster.

Mario Tennis GBA: I just could not stop leveling up. In the end, my character was level 99 and could destroy all opponents in the initial serve.

Wii Sports: I played the Tennis and Bowling games until I got near-perfect in them, all the time.

Kirby Superstar (And Ultra, to a lesser extent): I could not stop playing it until I had unlocked everything, and that took practically forever.

Sonic 2: As a kid, I played it for an entire year straight, just to get to the end of it.

Sonic 3 & Knuckles: I've played it on the PC version and the Genesis one. I just could not stop going through it, collecting all the emeralds, then doing it again and again with different character combinations.

SSB and SSB:M: I never stopped playing these until their successors came out. SSB:B is an exception--my excellence at playing it combined with the way it broke the tiers horribly make me unwilling to play it vanilla anymore.

Perfect Dark: Again and again, I play it to get the difficult cheat codes I didn't have the concentration before long ago.

Need for Speed 3: Only its horrible incompatibility with anything remotely modern could stop me from playing it right now, modding it with more and more insane cars, and sending Corvettes flying over power lines.

Sonic Adventure 2: I played this for easily 200 hours, getting Chao to high levels and trying (and failing) to get A ranks.

Panel de Pon. In any form.
Pokémon. Specially the advance games and their hacks.
Kirby Super Star Ultra. And Amazing Mirror before it.

Of course, that doesn't mean game I played the most. That's Kirby's Adventure.

Pokemon Red was incredibly addicting for me for awhile, I replayed it multiple times. (even though I had to delete my save )

The portable modern Castlevanias (minus Order of Ecclesia, which I was never able to get into) had a similar effect.

I was totally addicted to the Phoenix Wright games when I first got them, I went without sleeping to try to beat them... (though they've pretty much sat on the shelf since I did) Probably the most addicted I've been to a game.

Some pretty fantastic games mentioned in this thread. I'm guilty of being addicted to more than a few of these. The big ones for me are:
200+ hours in Pokemon Diamond alone plus like 100 more from all the other versions
Easily just as many hours in World of Warcraft (although I unsubscribed in Jan. and I may be do done for good with that game)

A game that hasn't been mentioned, Dragon Quest Monsters. (GBC) I LOVE breeding stuff! I think I may have memorized how to breed every damn monster in that game from playing it nonstop many summers ago.

I can't stand pokémon Red because of the pokecenter music ringing in my ears during the hours I spent trying to switch a single pokémon while figuring what did TM48 do. It made me want to not train anything more than six pokémon.

    Step.

    Fucking.

    Mania.

    God damn it.

I got 100% in Sonic Adventure 2 and still play occasionally - I think that's the closest I've come in single player games that aren't stepmania. Occasionally mass games on Meteor Herd to see if I'll get a lucky placement and beat my best time of ~45 seconds.

I play Super Smash Brothers competitively (Melee and Brawl Minus.) It's not the same as an addiction, or am I just saying that?
