Prediction: 50% off when Steam does its summer sale. It'll be a one-day only sale, but the game will still be 33% off on the other days of it.

My wallet thanks you for saying that. No doubt this game will kick ass and is worth full price. But yeah, those steam sales can get pretty insane. Once initial release sales start dieing off, they will do a sales push while the game is still newish and probably offer a good deal, maybe not 50% but something nice.

And in the meantime, I can work on actually completing portal 1 100%

And I can hold off too until I purchase my new PC because this one - while it can run Portal quite well - can't handle Portal 2.

Yeah, Portal games can certainly mess up a computer. Mine handled the first one fine until the moment I beat the boss. then the game would lag so bad, It would take half an hour just to get to the credits.

Ya know I hadn't even thought about system requirements. Damn. I really hope they do a "if you can run portal 1 good, you can run portal 2" policy/option. Looking at the system requirement off of steam side by side..

Portal1
Minimum: 1.7 GHz Processor, 512MB RAM, DirectX® 8.1 level Graphics Card (Requires support for SSE), Windows® 7 (32/64-bit)/Vista/XP, Mouse, Keyboard, Internet Connection

Portal 2
o OS: Windows 7 / Vista / XP
o Processor: 3.0 GHz P4, Dual Core 2.0 (or higher) or AMD64X2 (or higher)
o Memory: 1GB XP / 2GB Vista
o Hard Disk Space: At least 7.6 GB of Space
o Video: Video card must be 128 MB or more and should be a DirectX 9-compatible with support for Pixel Shader 2.0b (ATI Radeon X800 or higher / NVIDIA GeForce 7600 or higher / Intel HD Graphics 2000 or higher).
o Audio: DirectX 9.0c compatible

Pretty huge bump up. Not looking good for my HP p.o.s.

I figure they're working off the L4D version of the Source engine, which was beefed up from the Orange Box engine. (no more DX8.1 support, first instance of multi-core rendering, iirc)

The step up does make a lot of sense; just look at the quality difference between P1 and P2, especially with all the vegetation in P2.

It's a bump up, but seriously the requirements still aren't high by today's standards.

My computer can still run it in spades, but I have an HD4550 and 4 GB RAM and stuff.

Paulguy's Post configuration
hope it works in Wine. D3D 9 I recall being fairly slow, but maybe my computer will be fast enough to make up for it.
