Okay what

- Allow people to carry firearms into all government-run facilities and many public events. The only places or events that could ban firearms would be those that post the correct sign, provide firearm lockers and have armed security and a metal detector. The law would apply to university classrooms, city buses and community festivals that get government permits. It would not apply to K-12 schools.

Uh...

- Change the wording of last year's concealed-weapons law to require an individual to answer "truthfully" when a law-enforcement officer asks whether the person is carrying a concealed weapon. The current wording requires the person to answer "accurately." Law-enforcement officials say the change could give leeway to a person who, for example, forgets a gun in a bag and inaccurately tells an officer he or she isn't carrying one.

I... er...

- Change the wording of Shannon's Law to make it a crime to "knowingly" discharge a firearm within city limits. It's currently a crime for someone to discharge a firearm with "criminal negligence." Bill opponents said the change would mean people could be convicted of violating this law only if the prosecution could prove they knew that shooting the gun could result in someone's death or injury.

What the...

- Allow people to sue if they feel they were illegally stopped from carrying a firearm into a government facility or event. If a person wins the lawsuit and the government agency doesn't pay within 72 hours, the person has the right to seize as payment "any municipal vehicles used or operated for the benefit of any elected office holder" in the relevant government agency.

The solution to any public safety problem is always more guns. If you're not safe, that just means more guns are needed. Keep adding guns until everyone is safe or dead.

But seriously, wtf?

This seems to be part of a contest amongst a certain subset of Republicans to see who can make the most insane far-right laws.

I don't know about anyone else, but I feel significantly less safe around guns. I don't like the idea that anyone on the street could quickly and easily kill me if they so choose.

I'd rather be shot and die quickly than geting slowly murdered. Guns are the most humane of all killing devices with the exception of shotguns (just plain messy)

I'd hardly say guns are humane. Sure, a shot to the head and your gone in an instant. But your head gets splattered around. Shot anywhere else? You'll either live or die a slow, painful death of bleeding out. Get shot in the heart or lungs? You'll be agonizingly gasping for breath until you pass out from the pain and/or die.

Regarding the law: Using a gun isn't making things safer? Use more gun! :specialed:

Um, put me on the list for preferring not to die at all.

Well, it just has a rabid right-wing setup right now.

The irony is I'm not against having guns, but I'd rather they follow Switzerland's example if they want to make it "GUNS EVERYWHERE."

What the? I bet a lawyer made this to prove the faults in the law making system. I heard one lawyer in Austrailia patented the wheel to prove faults in the patent system.

No, it's just dumb right winger shit. It's not a stretch to think that somebody insane enough to make laws like this would put in retarded clauses like this.

Well, i'd feel a little safer knowing that I had the power to kill a terrorist. Imagine what would have happened if the victims on the planes on 9/11 had guns.

Only in movie/video game land. In reality, things like shootings and terrorists attacks are very, very quick, and that usually doesn't give you enough time to pull your gun out and shoot like you're in Call of Duty. Remember Jared Lougher? Well, someone in the Segway near where he opened fire DID have a gun, but by the time the armed citizen pulled it out and was aiming, two citizens already disarmed him non-lethally. If he had shot the person holding Jared's gun, he would've hit one of the people that disarmed Jared.

Besides, there are non-lethal ways to subdue a terrorist. Remember the plane that crashed in the middle of Pennsylvania in 9/11? that's because the people on the plane managed to subdue the hijacker long enough AND they didn't use lethal weapons. They managed to prevent that plane from hitting the White House or god knows what else via non-lethal means.

Well, at least eveyone would have a fighting chance. not to mention the cold war mentality of everyone having a gun would deter alot of crimes.

Too bad that there's no evidence whatsoever pointing to the conclusion that "everyone have guns = safer"

I'm of the mentality of "if the guy's crazy enough to shoot, he will irregardless of whether other people have weapons"

These kind of people also tend to kill themselves after the act, so I'd think they don't really care at that point.

Actually I remember from somewhere that Tuscon Arizona is a place where it is commonplace for everyone to walk around carrying a gun on their hip, AND it has the lowest crime rate in the entire nation. And by somewhere, I mean my step-grandfather who is right-wing but not stereotypical right-wing, and is also well educated, well traveled, and most likely knows what he is talking about.

I have no idea if he is right or not, and I'm not saying I support it or anything, and personally I think that bill does indeed sound batshit insane, but if you want evidence, well, there's some evidence for you.
