I just read an article on the internet and I so not know if it is true on not.
Below is the the text from the article

A recent hack has caused piracy havoc for the PlayStation 3. At least according to Sony. But a new rumor has surfaced on the internet that may provide Sony with a solution.

According to PS3-Sense (Dutch), a “very reliable source” tells them that Sony are planning to implement BluRay registration numbers, not unlike any Microsoft game you purchase for PC. It would mean that your PlayStation 3 game will be “paired” to the console. The website also adds that Sony will allow the game to be used on “up to five consoles”.

Sony may make you register your games online before you can play them

While it may put those nasty thieving pirates at bay, the implications are somewhat severe. For example, it would spell the end of pre-owned PS3 games as we know it. It would also spell disaster to those who can’t be bothered connecting their console to the internet; no registration would mean the disc is rendered unplayable.

And this is where the rumor loses some credibility. Would Sony really decide to block out anyone who doesn’t have an internet connection just to stop hackers and pirates? Let us know what you think below.

http://aussie-gamer.com/rumor-sony-integrate-software-registration-keys-playstation-3/

We all better hope not or we are all screwed game wise.

Doing that would also destroy the console whenever they shut down their online services for the PS3. If they did this, it wouldn't be possible to grab a PS3 in 10-20 years time and play games that would come out after this started because the PS3 would be looking for an online service to authenticate it, but it'd be gone.

...which means you'd have to re-buy those games on your Playstation 4. Yeah, I don't think that's going to sound like a bad thing to them.

This sounds like a lot of work to implement this late in the game- it'd be easier to believe if they were talking about doing this sort of thing for the PlayStation 4... (though I suppose no one is talking about the PS4 at all)

If it's possible, I'm sure Sony will find a way. They love their rootkits.

They should be able to implement this with only a firmware update.

I wouldn't put it past them, even at this point on the PS3. And really, as if they care about people without internet connection on their console or using the machine 10 years down the line - this is Sony we're talking about.

Do you think any console manufacturer really cares about the usability of a 20-year-old console, especially if they're no longer earning money from it? Obviously, the more time you spend playing crusty old consoles and games, the less you'll spend buying and playing new ones, which means less money in their pockets. I'm sure they're all more than happy to "flip the switch" when the time comes, especially if they're losing money by keeping the old services online.

I agree, it really sucks, but that's business. Welcome to the 21st century. Just think of how bad the situation will be when all games are either download-only, or rely on servers to stream vital game data. Entire libraries will disappear with the flip of a switch...

Good point and that is the future and it sucks.

The future of gaming:
1.Product keys
2. Digital distribution only.

I don't think they care at all. I'm just listing an unintended side-effect.

I hope you're playing the Wii now, because Microsoft and thier xbox aren't any better than sony. At least Sony isn't whoring a 1000% markup on internet costs like Xbox live.

microsoft gets away with nickel-and-diming every aspect of xbox live because their console is the only one that has actually attempted to maintain an online community. also, they actually add features to the xbox. I chose the ps3 over it because it had so much potential, but all sony is interested in is disabling features and suing small businesses and nerds. I don't like xbox live, but it's certainly better than anything the ps3 offers (nothing).

anyway, wii + pc gaming is more than enough for me.

his comment wasn't "fanboyism" at all. probably because he said something more interesting than some vague comment about how every corporation sucks.
Nintendo offers some pretty good stuff imo.

What.

His post was basically "xbox sucks, wii is awesome" without any real explanation. Sounds like fanboyism to me.

And some ridiculous info that seems blatently false (if that was refering to the Xbox live prices rise).

I'm saying that Nintendo isn't all that awesome. To me it seems that instead of relying on solid games like they used to do, they just rely on whatever gimmick is most popular at the time. You can argue it's more problematic because of developpers, but Nintendo certainly isn't helping. Also, Nintendo apparently just spends its time preventing piracy on their console instead of meaningful software update.... just like Sony!

Say what you will, but to me it seems that most of you people judge Sony's (and to a lesser extent Microsoft's) product based on the company's reputation, and not on the product itself.

Oh well, whatever. Sony is evil, Microsoft sucks, and Nintendo can do no wrong whatsoever.

EDIT: Might as well

Yeah, sure. Let's take something that happened once, generalize it to the whole company. Fun fact: Sony's music division isn't Sony's gaming division. It's such a huge company that divisions probably act separate most of the time.

Makes me wonder when Apple is going to get in on this gaming business. Then all the xbox fans can bash apple and destroy each other, sony and Nintendo will rise to the top of the market and Sega will come back from the grave and take down Nintendo with themselves leaving only Playstation left!

Sorry... did I say that out loud?

Corporations suck. Yes, there it is, the nefarious generic anti-corporate thing I say. Mwa ha ha ha haaaa.

However there is a part 2, in which I ran from the PS3 when it went from "Will they make the PS2, only better?" to "599 dollars? Ahhhhhhhh!!!!!"

I go with the Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii. The X360 works just great even for cheapskates like me who rarely pay anything for online stuff, and the Wii... uhhh... when I have money, it's good for the occasional endless rehash of a game I liked 10 years ago. Although it gets some unique games occasional, like DKR. Those are good too.

Also, hacking brawlll.
