I swear if you get in to a shitslinging contest in this thread I will rip your nuts off. Having said that, I'm just curious about your beliefs of the demographic. Don't feel comfortable? Don't vote. Don't feel obliged to post explaining, either. Just wondering about how people feel about the subject.

Play nice or I'll kill you.

My "belief" for the past several years has been that I hold there is a "god", but as to the nature or type thereof is undefined.

I don't believe in a god, but I do hold some less-than-scientific beliefs, such as life after death.

Religion, eh?

Logic won me over long ago, but my hope has me voting "Spiritualist"

I really want to design an RPG that reflects my feelings on religion and belief. With any luck...

I am a proud and practicing follower of the Invisible Pink Unicorn (may her holy hooves never be shod), but vote #2 anyway because we don't have many religious things to do anyway.

I hold many neo-pagan and Wiccan beliefs close to me; I just don't practice any rituals or spells or anything like that.

Machi-Machi v. Kyan!
I don't know if I'll ever be able to answer that one in my lifetime (or the next if there is one).

Baptized Christian at the age of 12 and was excessively devout until about the age of 17 or so...and the longer I'm alive, the more I realize something is fucked up.

Does that make me a complete atheist? Not really. I can't very well say that there is or isn't a God or that any other deity exists. I'm pretty much agnostic; I flat out don't know.

But, that said, I think morality is something to live by...and I think that if everyone acted immorally, we wouldn't get anywhere. Perhaps that's why there is religion if it doesn't really mean anything? To keep people's minds in check?

And I know that a lot of practicing believers would like to keep the faith because they would rather have some faith about a deity through their lives even if it means there's nothing but black and non-existing at the end that they don't know of than rather not practice only to find out that there really is something at the end of their rope and they've sincerely pissed it off.

I don't know...with as many religions as there are in the world and as many systems of right and wrong as there are people...how am I supposed to tell anyone what the right thing is for them to believe besides what they hold true to their own values? That also said, I can't very well condemn someone for something they TRULY believe...not for what everyone around them practices that they've decided to pick up because it makes them look cool or accepted or because their parents do it. That's the only real thing I ask from people often times when I get into discussions like these: Is this what you really believe?

Eh, my belief is that there might be a God or gods, but since no one has any proof in any direction, well, it's not too strong a belief.

My family is Christian but basically all that means is we celebrate Christmas and Easter. We used to go to church quite some time ago, and that was about all we ever did as far as practising goes.

Myself, I guess I fall under the "spiritual" category. While I've come up with a lot of different ideas, the one I believe most is that God is not an entity but rather some form of energy; maybe energy itself. The force that makes a difference between a living being and a pile of meat and bones. I'm told the Wiccans believe this, but I haven't looked into it. I honestly don't care.

I'm an athiest, pretty much believe in no God or whatever. There's a catch, though, I believe the religious stuff can be explained by science, and in doing so one could, hopefully, discover if there's an afterlife or not, by using instruments which can access the variety of dimensions we can't really access while alive.

Furthermore, while I believe in no God, I can say that Physics qualifies as one, at least to me. At least, if you tick off physics by doing something dumb (like, knife hits your finger), then, gee golly, there goes your finger. Considering Physics can be very wrathful as well as very nice, it seems to explain (to me) why other people claim God is those two qualities.

My beliefs are semi-similar to Einstein, although I do believe that God rolls dice, although rather than God I just call it physics.

It's a very strange belief, though I've found it to be slightly more common among the scientific community.

Drag's Post #298
I personally like how the Egyptians did it; they believed in multiple gods and goddesses, and the way to succeed in life is by having a light heart. That and a lot of their gods were animals (at least to *some* extent).

I was baptized Presbyterian, but I don't go to church or anything. I almost never went to church, ever, actually. However, we do celebrate Christmas and Easter, but it's not really religious. I.E., to us: Christmas = put up really awesome decorations, the family comes together, and we give each other stuff, and have an awesome dinner; and Easter = Eat chocolate and hardboiled eggs. We don't really put much religion into it.

Ok, so now I'm going to give my opinion, and since religion is a touchy subject, I'm going to state right now that I don't mean any offense in any way.

One thing I don't like about most Christian religions is that I get the feeling that a lot of times, life is about suffering and devoting yourself to something that you may or may not be willing to devote yourself to. One tiny screw up and you get damned to go to hell forever, and whatnot.

I don't want to live my life in fear of the (very) distant future, I want to live my life feeling happy and enjoying the present.

One last thing, I tend to not want to limit myself to just one idea. I like a lot of Egyptian concepts (like polytheism, light heartedness, gods not necesarilly human, etc), but I like some other concepts too (flying spaghetti monster, and Discordianism, as ridiculous as these sound ), and other stuff that may actually be just stuff I made up.

I generally don't worry about death, because I don't plan on dying any time soon , so I try not to worry about the afterlife. I'll find out what it is when I die. So as such, I generally tend not to pay much attention to religion.

So anyway, that's me. I have beliefs, but they're generally a lot different from most people's beliefs.

Edit: Also, I'm not sure how I should vote...

My family has purely secular Christmas and Easter as well. My dad is rather obsessed with Christmas (maybe because it's his birthday) but doesn't like the religious aspects at all, but he still likes decorating, Christmas trees and lights etc., and gifts (although he's tiring of trying to find things to get people). So I don't really think of either day as being religious.

Personally, I'm a Catholic in that I do what I think is right. I don't actively do much else, though.

So, basically, I'm an inactive Catholic.

I believe that there's probably no god, but I don't feel like I know, nor do I really give a damn either way. I accept that there are many things that science cannot currently explain, and I'm open to the possibility that science cannot possibly explain them; I feel that it is arrogance to think humans will be able to learn everything about how the world works, though there is great progress to be made in trying.

With all the near-contradictions in the above, you can probably guess that I don't have any strong beliefs on those topics. What I believe in most strongly is doing good, no matter your theological differences; for example, if one of the local churches does a food drive for the poor, I'll help out in any way I'm able, even if they are being overtly religious about it. There's nothing specifically Christian about helping the poor, that's a rather universal Good Thing, and it'd be terribly selfish to refuse to help solely on account of a difference of beliefs.
