The whole Gawker Media blog redesign is really quite bad... so many unnecessary boxes fixed on the page.
I also hate how a quarter of the page scrolls separately from the rest, that's always been one of my website pet peeves...

While it's convenient for surfing the site, the new layout required an instruction manual to figure out.

That's bad, when it confuses someone like me. Just think of how confusing it is for most users!

I've noticed that a lot of websites have been going through god-awful redesigns as of late. It's like some third-rate website designers fresh out of college managed to convince CEOs of major websites that fixed boxes and tons of wasted space is totally rockin' and user friendly.

Plus, for people like me who use NoScript, now you have to enable more sites just to be able to see things. (The comments were already like that, but I mean, comments are one thing)

Or a kitchen, for that matter. Life is so fun when all you can eat is peanut butter (unless the neighbors feel pity and give you food which luckily happens rather often)

In Germany, I just had a tiny fridge, and I had to share it with the guy next door who would use up like 90% of the space in it.

Returning to my usual apartment made me appreciate a refrigerator and freezer (not to mention my own toilet and shower) so much more.

Ah yes, I've read that that's how it is there, generally. My German 102 class is teaching us a lot about culture (as well as the language, of course)

I can deal with the Gawker layout change but it's not very good at all. I mean, at the very least offer an option to show all the news posts in the left window old-style instead of just 3 or 4 headlines.

I have a major ten-page creative writing assignment due Thursday. I'm conflicted and have two ideas of where to take the plot. (This is the first phase of a longer-term revision process) So what do I do? Decide to write both, of course... but now I have two written, and am no closer to choosing which is better than I started. Argh... If I wasn't so embarrassed about my writing quality I'd post it here, but...

Write a single basic page for each plot and see which one you flows or works better. Writing two whole stories that you're not sure about seems like a waste of effort.

Well, what I've written for both is just a first-draft type of thing, throw-up on a page that still needs to be cleaned up and such, so it's not too much of a waste of effort.

The problem is I can't tell which works or flows better- they're radically different ideas. And this is why I'm terrible at these broad assignments...

I can't help you there, unfortunately (unless you really want to post your drafts here). It's all up to you, since you're the one that has the full vision of the story in your head. :s

I can imagine it being like a huge drug reference book. What you should and shouldn't do with the ammo, which ones are safety hazards when NOT loaded into a gun...
