Well as you can see, the image in my signature does not appear.
Could anyone tell me what I need to type to make it work?
I have the link of the uploaded image and all, but I can't seem to get the right html or whatever.

To post just an image without any title text:

<img src='http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6993882/Banner-1.gif' />

If you want to make it a link as well, put it into anchor tags:

<a href='desired URL'><img src='http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6993882/Banner-1.gif' /></a>

You could also just use board code:

[img]URL[/img]

...of course, actually using a big animated banner like that in a sig is a good way to get smacked, but yes. You can use the usual BBcodes or HTML in your header and signature. (Some HTML is not allowed though.)

Okay, you've got it partially, but you left the "Desired URL" part in. :p

You have to change that to the site where you want the image to lead if clicked.

"Smacked" in this context though is going to mean that the banner is a bit garish and might annoy some people

Speaking of your layout, any chance you could change your text color as well? Since your text right now is black and blends in with the background... (it's not black on all forum schemes, of course, but it is in the one I'm using...)

No, doing that makes it hard to read on schemes with light backgrounds.

Instead, use something like this:

<div style="color:white;background:black;">This will be white text in a black box.</div>

<span style="color:white;background:black;">This will be white text with a black highlight.</span>

(For a layout, you'll want to use the first one.)

Why would it?

If you use a background in your layout it would not matter at all as long as the text is readable on that background. :/

But HesMaybeMarc does have a background- that's why the default font color is an issue.

Yes. Generally unless somehow the background vanishes, I'm unsure how it will wind up being white with no background, but it's always good to be safe and not sorry, I guess.
