My operation was a success For those who didn't know, I had an organ sitting in the wrong place, which could've become a malignant tumour, so they had to operate to bring it down to the correct position.

I got into the hospital at 6:45am. I didn't actually manage to get into the operating theatre until 11:00am because it was pretty busy. It seems that they were trying to get through the backlog of people who couldn't show up because of snow last year.

They checked my blood pressure, which had managed to climb up to 141/101. Makes sense, I was very scared at the time. I met my anaesthetist and then my surgeon, who told me that it may not be possible to save the organ, but that they would try to bring it down.

I got wheeled into the anaesthetic room. By this point, my heart was pounding and I was shaking. I was that scared of it. They put a needle into the vein on the back of my hand and pulled it out, leaving a plastic tube in my vein. The anaesthetist gave me oxygen from a mask and injected me with the anaesthetic. At first, my hand hurt as it travelled. Then, the next thing I know, I'm awake in the post-op ward with a nurse looking over me. I couldn't even remember going to sleep and I couldn't remember dreaming, which was REALLY interesting.

The doctor came over and told me that they had succeeded in bringing the organ down. However, I have to go back and see him in 3 months and I might end up losing it anyway.

I was still immensely drowsy when I woke up, with an incredibly dry mouth and in pain. Now I'm on codeine, paracetamol and Ibuprofen. The trouble is, codeine makes you drowsy, I'm going back to college on Monday and I have to take 4 lots every day for the next two week. I'm gonna end up falling asleep in Physics

It's good to be back

Glad to hear you are ok. I honestly didn't know for some reason. Did you post about your surgery somewhere?

I've heard that from another friend who had surgery under general anaesthesia. It must have been weird.

I'm glad that you're OK

Surgery is always nerve-wrecking, glad to see you made it through.

...Wait, you're getting thrown right back into classes that soon? Are they fucking insane?

I think it depends on how I feel really. At the moment, doing anything is an adventure in pain, and considering how I have to walk to college, there is a good chance I won't be coming in for a while.

Thanks guys!

In the What's On Your Mind thread, I believe. It didn't attract much attention, so I'm not surprised you didn't spot it

Dude, you gotta tell us specifically about these things. We need to know! Just so we can keep tabs on where you are and in my case to pray for you.

The upside to this operation (aside from the obvious organ getting fixed thing) is that my Ethics teacher gave me 3 DVD's by Richard Dawkins to watch. They should be interesting

And don't worry, the next time I have an operation, I'll take over all of Jul so you don't miss it

The spree probably covered it in a bunch of quick little posts.

As for college, I'd say don't go back until you're ready to get there and sit through classes Some people take weeks to recover from surgery.

Definitely a good idea, but with 4 lessons to do and practical exams, I'm not sure how much I can miss to recuperate, which sucks. I'm no good if I can't concentrate because of pain.

Would your teachers understand, or is your school filled with sadistic maniacs who toss failing grades around like confetti like my university was?

They'd understand. My Physics teacher definitely would, considering that he broke his cheek and had to go to hospital. My Ethics teacher is just the best teacher ever, so she'd understand. My Chemistry teacher doesn't know about it because I didn't have her today or yesterday, but I believe she'd let me off and my Biology teacher is a... well, BIOLOGY teacher. She'd understand that I need time.

If this was secondary school, I have no doubt that things would be different ¬_¬

Great to hear your surgery went well! Protip from somebody who has been there: take it easy for a while, you're going to feel weak and tired for some time, it'll take a while to gain back all of your strength, don't try to puch yourself too early, you will be able to tell when you can start actively moving again. I hope you don't get too big of a scar!

Hope you recover well, and that you don't lose a testicle. I've been in plenty of surgery and have come out mostly fine as far as I can tell. The brain stuff was pretty much like that before. :p

Glad to hear everything went well.

And I agree; don't push yourself. You know your limits and if you need an extra few days to recover, take them. Your health is what's most important.

I remember when I got my appendix out, the put that thing in my arm, then actually kind of forgot about me. This was at 6 pm. After midnight, they finally told me I was going into surgery. I went in at around 2 AM. Those things are a bitch, arn't they?

Anyways, don't over do it! Life will suck for a while, but don't push yourself to hard, don't take the pain meds unless you really need to, and for the love of all things noodley, milk that injury for all it is worth!

There really is no hiding that from you guys, is there?

Fun fact: The codeine I'm taking is a derivative of opium. No wonder I feel so high all the time. It doesn't look like I'll be heading into college this Monday, and even my mum is telling me to take the week off if I need to. It also looks like I'll be heading to the hospital every 48 hours to get the dressing changed by a, uh, female nurse. *cough*

Ooh, that codeine is kicking in again. I feel gooooooood.

What other redundant organ is there that can be in the wrong place, need to be brought down and can become a tumor if not removed? You gave way too many hints. :p
