How do you do clicks most of the time on a laptop, when not using an external mouse?
Doesn't matter whether it's your laptop or not, just in general. If you use a macbook pressing down on the trackpad counts as using a button, though I do believe that also has the tap click, at least in Windows.

Personally, I use a button click, and I've never owned a laptop with a trackpoint. Tap to click drives me nuts because I prefer to be able to place the cursor precisely, and that can be hard because it often detects small movements as clicks.

My laptop has a trackpoint (and a trackpad, but it's kind of crappy) and I use it when I'm not using an external mouse (which is like 99% of the time nowadays), but you can't use it to click... I use the buttons for that.

I always plug my trackball into any would-be laptop I have.

When I'm using the trackpad, I usually still click the button instead of taping. I would have issues on some laptops not registering the tap correctly or moving the mouse slightly if the tap slid a little. But when I was using a laptop exclusively as my main computer, I had a USB mouse and only used the trackpad if I was moving the laptop around to show someone the screen or to move it somewhere else temporarily.

I can't stand the tap-to-click touchpads because I always end up clicking/dragging random things almost every time I go to move the cursor.

Of course, I don't like using the trackpad at all since I have my mouse, but I still have to use it for scrolling because of the "quality" of apple mice.

Button clicks.

Tap to click has bothered me ever since I got my first laptop back in 2003. It'd be nice if it wasn't so damn oversensitive...

The few times I use a laptop with no mouse, I just go for button clicks.

Button clicks only if I don't have a working mouse handy. I really loathe tapping to click. It's so easy to do accidentally.

I absolutely hate tapping to click. It's always the first thing I disable whenever I get a new laptop.

Oddly, I use a mouse to move the cursor with my right hand, and click the buttons on my keyboard with my left. I also ussually type left hand only, unless I'm writing a long winded response to something.

My mouse has been gradually failing, so I have to do this occasionally nowadays... (Mostly in situations where an accidental double-click would be bad)

I've been stuck with the trackpad because the USB ports on my laptop got fried, and have been without my desktop for a bit due to other things. Kinda sucks.

Button clicks. Definitely those.

Tap to click for me always results in multiple accidental clicks, and makes it a bitch to drag and drop.

I'm not even sure how you're supposed to drag and drop with tap-to-click.

One of my old laptops had tapping enabled with no way to turn it off, which was problematic when my mouse died and I had to use the touchpad as a backup for a while. It turns out that the computer didn't come with the correct touchpad driver

Tap-to-click works fine on my laptop, which is one of the MacBook Pros before the multitouch trackpads came out. Never had any issues with accidental movement or clicks; it's really very good at detecting accidental input and ignoring it. I also have to say that it's probably the best trackpad I've ever used, but I still prefer a real mouse if one is available.

I use the buttons on my touchpad. Tap to click is just annoying, especially when you just put your finger down on the pad to start moving the cursor and it instantly clicks on whatever the cursor happens to be on.

I've been using this laptop for so long that I'm actually far more comfortable using a trackpad than an actual mouse at this point, even for playing FPSes and other games.

I do actually tap to click

By the way, to click and drag, you tap once, lift the finger, then tap again and move around.
