These prices are absurd, especially considering the fact we still have lower speeds than even America.

What the hell.

25GB? You're starting to get into wireless internet limits there...

Now, how long until a big US ISP goes this route?

Not long, US is trying to pass a bill like that too.

Meanwhile in Japan, unlimited monthly bandwidth, 35GB a day upload, 75MB/s download.

Really, words cannot describe how pissed I am. Canada at least used to have decent internet, what with almost everything unlimited bandwidth... but now... blegh.

Some are already doing it, like Comcast, but their caps are higher. Instead of overage charges though, if you manage to somehow go over 250GB, they'll just slow down your connection. Australian ISPs and some European ones already do this but also set much lower caps.

Basically politicians are listening too much to the ISPs -- the tubes aren't clogged enough to merit ridiculous limits like this. The only thing it does is rip people off.

Also, the tubes wouldn't even be clogged if places just fixed their fucking infrastructure instead of charging more for what already exists.

Corporations.

Until some people actually go out into the streets and protest them, it will just get worse.

People are organizing protests on reddit, thankfully.

You have to remember that these regulations apply to third party ISP's who are using the main telco structure (in this case, Bell's) and were basically getting away with charging less for more data than Bell gives on most of their plans.

Don't think I'm defending Bell as they're extremely greedy SOB's and they'll probably hike their own rates soon. The only reason I'm still with them is because I've had them since 2000 and I'm fairly certain I'm still on an unlimited plan due to having it for so long.

(EDIT: Lucky 7's! )

People in Saskatchewan are lucky bastards, what with Sasktel :/

Shaw seems to be on Bell's lines, judging by the prices.

Phew.

Similar caps to Australia, but about a half to third of the price.

At the very least, not out here because we don't get the option of Bell service. Actually...

I always thought those "lol Canada is a third-world country" jokes were just, well, jokes, but when we're going back to the days of dialup and calling it an upgrade, well...

Are they still going to call it "always-on"? I don't think that's compatible with metered billing...

Someone get me a pitchfork and a torch and point me to the nearest ISP who's even considering this shit.

This is kind of what politicians do. It gets them money.

Yeah. Take it from me--a grandson of an exceptionally corrupt State representative--they will chase the money, and do whatever the person with the money tells them to do.

Sure it is. You just have to micromanage your usage for everything ever. :|

Do they give you a meter to watch in Canada/Australia? There's technically a 250GB limit on mine too, but I have no meter to watch. :/

Dunno about Canada but here every ISP gives you a usage page to log into and check how much you have used.

See, that's what is ridiculous in the US. I have a 250 GB cap, but I have no clue what my usage is!
