There are still VGA cameras around... The DSi, for example.

 | Speaking of VGA cameras, the iPod Touch's front one actually is one.
It's understandable, though, seeing as usually you'll only use that for talking to people face to face, or taking a picture of yourself...

Ah, yea... I remember those Mavica cameras... very popular back in the day
Originally posted by RinkWorks I recently purchased a Sony Mavica still camera, which, for those unfamiliar, is a digital camera that stores snapshots on a floppy disk. Twice so far I have had someone ask me if it is safe to take the disk out in a lighted room.
Yep, I can see why people might say that

Significantly doesn't begin to describe it.
The iPod Touch camera just gets way, way too much shit. Decent pictures in good light. I usually reduce the resolution to 512x384 or lower, anyway...

This should be a milestone post, but it isn't! The next post shall be, because it's far more important.

| | Metal_Man88's Post | Originally posted by Orlandu I'm a fan of the digital age. I love people who love using film still. They're usually better than 99% of digital camera photographers. But I like seeing my pictures as soon as I take them and being able to take 300 of them in a span of a minute or so I had a Nikon D300 (also expensive but had to sell it eventually), and I liked it but Canon has better video capabilities and is a full sensor 18MP camera. One of the best out there besides the Nikon D3X which is about $7400 for body only.
Me, I'm the old school film user. I'm using my Grandpa's Canon AE-1 to take pics--the picture in my layout is one of them.
He had the camera refurbished right before I (Whoops, I'm not dead) he died. I figure he'd be happy if I gave his camera some good use taking pictures of things he sadly never got to see.

You should post a link to the actual original picture, sometime. I'm curious to see how it'd look without artifacting.

| | Metal_Man88's Post | Well, most of my stuff is in JPG currently... but if you want the whole image at once, here it is.
I'd have to re-scan it to BMP or something to remove all of it.

I have to say, I like the convenience of a digital camera and all, but there is something about a traditional film picture...

| | Metal_Man88's Post | When you scan it enough, a traditional film picture can also surpass some digital.
It just takes a bit of... fineagling. I still don't have scanning down 100%.

Same here... and considering the fact that digital cameras that produce the quality of 35mm film images tend to cost in the thousands of dollars...

When I'd scan, I always use BMP at first.
It's an excellent base format to work off of, but not for sharing.

BMP is a weird format in some ways... I never understood why it stored images upside down.
