You still will not escape the W3C police though, with such flagrant uses of <font> and <center>...

Numbers no longer escape from post box

Open tags and close tags still don't match

I remember a book from 1998 that said those tags were on the way out. People still use 'em.

I don't really like how the W3C keeps trying to take useful tags out of HTML, forcing people to use clumsier CSS constructs for everything. CSS tends to be better for global styles, yes, but <font> is nice and simple for that one word that should be in a different colour, etc.

Somewhat oddly, HTML5 is dumping <u> outright, but <b> and <i> will be allowed to stick around... for now.

Probably just because <b> and <i> are used so much more frequently in Web pages. People tend to avoid underlining text because it can make it difficult to distinguish from a hyperlink, and so you see it a lot less often.

Oh, come on now. That's absolutely ridiculous. I don't want to relearn basic tags I knew from day 1 online.

uh oh, such a flagrant violation of the laws of HTML.

While we're on a similar subject:

The border-image property is only supported in Chrome.
Firefox supports an alternative, the -moz-border-image property.
Opera supports an alternative, the -o-border-image property.
Safari supports an alternative, the -webkit-border-image property.
I fucking hate this.

Let's repeat ourselves four or five times just to make sure everything displays the same in every browser!

Why does it have to be so bloody awkward? Why not a universal standard that browsers can follow?

They do this to discourage using things that haven't been finalized yet, like border-image. In fact, my layout has compatibility code due to some browsers disagreeing on the appropriate way to render the middle section of the border image. I'll be trimming out all of the browser-specific sections once CSS3 is finalized.

Oh, and your layout doesn't specify -o-border-image.

I still like the use of underlining. If someone can't tell the difference between underlined text by mousing over it without clicking it...

Meh, I dunno. I'm used to it I guess and want it to stay.

I still remember the old
tags and stuff though. I think I used 'em!
