Last night Twitter user JennHudd tweeted out this photo she took at Harps, a grocery store in Mountain Home, Arkansas. Apparently US Weekly's cover shot of Elton John, his partner, and baby is just too shocking for children. Harps has over 60 locations in Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri.

Yeah ... I find this almost as offensive (or even more so) than Fred Phelps' anti-gay crap.

So disturbing

Are we sure this is store policy? Maybe someone just screwed up the filing...

But yeah, finding that image of all things offensive is kind of screwed up.

And the mythical belief that children's eyeballs will melt if they're exposed to any relationship that's not a traditional opposite-sex marriage continues. All this shit accomplishes is it makes people hate LGBT individuals and partnerships more because they think they are to be hated and feared. Which was probably the intent

I'm guessing that's where Us Weekly typically goes on their shelves. With covers such as:

Its understandable. I doubt this was done just for that week's issue. Everyone jumps to conclusions.

A store should just say "fuck you, bigots" and not shield this ZOMG OFFENSIVE cover anyway.

Solution: Complain about socially conservative publications, get their 'offensive' content shielded from impressionable young viewers.

Money talks, especially when the official opinion is "we have no opinion". The question just becomes "which group is more likely to get offended into not buying here?", and considering the noise from that side of the aisle (3 words: War on Christmas), it's unfortunately likely to be them.

That said,

This.

(Granted, then they'll just respond with zOMGTEHPERSECUTION, but... ehh. I have trouble pitying a majority for not being able to forcibly tell minorities that they suck shouldn't exist aren't american are minorities.)

EDIT: Derp conflation. Majority in this case being "nominally christian and straight" (if you don't look too closely at how "christian" is defined, otherwise you run into issues with catholic/methodist/baptist/pentacostal/mormon/lutheran/etc), not people who use religion to beat people down (I hope).

It's the South. I'm not surprised at any ridiculous act of censorship they do. I don't like it, but I'm not surprised one bit by it.
