Guess I don't have to disembowel you, Orlandu. I'll just let the viruses do their thing.

I am haunted by the smell of peppermint...

Er, I mean, it's kind of lazy that they just repeat the same two lines over and over again, just changing the color of the smilie.

Oh god...

I'm reminded that my mother had Smiley Central installed at one point.

...Is it any wonder I liked to do things in a Win98 VM, sometimes?

Y'know, one time, I had over 3000 viruses on my machine and not one of them actually did anything detrimental to my machine.

Since then, I haven't had a single virus.

I am going to :eyebrow: this statement, I don't see how that would actually...

Sure you weren't running over some false positives? I know I had a .dll or something in my ZC folder get called a virus when it wasn't, around the start of '10 or so. (Otherwise, how would said .dll -also- be infected from a .zip download that came from the original website?)

Back in 2006, I'd get piles of viruses every day. It got to the point where I had to reformat my hard drive every morning.

Then I went and bought ZoneAlarm Pro and didn't have trouble afterward.

Nah, it also happened to me. They just pop up their ads, break some things, and you end up still doing your things with [trope=MindScrew]simple[/trope] [trope=XanatosRoulette]workarounds[/trope].

Though then you get a single otherwise simple to kill adware that manages to screw up the right thing and it toasts the thing dead.

Since I've had my own computer I haven't had any issues at all with adware or spyware... back when I was on a shared computer with my other siblings, though, we had pretty much constant issues... I'm not sure if I can really say none of it was my fault, though.

With that issue in 2006, I think it's because I took a years-old computer that hadn't had Windows Update enabled and suddenly put it on the Internet. I'd get those "net send" windows popping up a lot, too.

I have had some problems with virus' int hat past, but the worst was last year when I somehow got a super virus that completely shut down my computer, and if I had not caught the fact that I had never installed an antivirus by that name, it would have prolly done even more bad stuff.

Everyone once in a great while, I'll get an ad popup hidden somewhere. If Adaware doesn't take care of it, I reformat and reinstall. Extreme measures, I know, but I don't want stuff on my computer that I didn't intentionally install. For that reason, I don't use virus protection or anything like that. They just slow down my computer when I need it running at its peak. I'm 10 times more cautious today about installing things than I was a few years ago when I had less then 100GB of data. Now I'm up to 500GB+ of pictures, videos, programs, etc.

Last time I got a virus was 2004, I believe... wiped my boot sector

Decided to upgrade my hard drive instead of trying to salvage it, but I did later recover the data a few years later

Pretty much no viruses got in. There was some spyware--Gator password remembering device--but it was readily replaced with stuff actually built into the browser anyway.

I've actually never had a virus before.

Worst is adware, and that's actually more my mother's doing. (And that was on the shared desktop, even...)
