The article is here.
I'm quite happy that LGBT rights are now advancing this quickly Before, I believe that hospitals had to allow an opposite-sex spouse to visit a patient but could deny the rights to a same-sex partner and any children of the partner. ____________________

I'm not sure if the Roman Empire had institutionalized hospital visitation rights for anyone?

| And the Romans were not that against homosexuality as long as it was the older man penetrating the younger one. I think. |

| | Metal_Man88's Post | Yeah, culturally the ancient world was sort of an entirely different scenario, and had rights been given back then, they would have been taken away by the Middle Ages anyway.
It only really makes sense in relation to a nation's age rather than the age of human civilization itself.
Hence the earliest sane date related to the US would be somewhere around 1760 or something, but of course no one really had any rights to speak of then, and they were mostly influenced by Protestant ideas, so yeah...
I'm mostly speaking on how awareness of other orientations seemingly came into the foreground all of 10-20, maybe 30 years ago, and hence the time to allow this was then, rather than now, where it has been culturally out there for practically forever.

The ancient Romans and Greeks had naked oil wrestling and giant penis statues. I don't think they were bothered by it at all.
I tried looking up the history of hospital visitation rights, but the only results I got were for this news.

Well that's good to hear at least, but I always figured that hospital visitation could be done by family and friends or whoever?
Then again, no one I know has really been in the hospital that I've had to try to go visit lately (except for one where I couldn't make it), so...yeah.

I think it was a matter of a few traumatizing cases, such as the one mentioned in the news article, that brought this in to the spotlight. I highly doubt that it happened very often but the fact that it was a restriction is what was wrong. Regardless of what the hospital staff or owners believe, it is not up to them who a patient has chosen to be a part of their family or who they choose to call their spouse.
The issue came from legal ramifications regarding medical decisions and the lack of Power of Attorney for same sex couples. But many recent changes to the laws are making this a thing of the past, thankfully.
