Oops! Sorry, I thought I had already posted about that knight not being unused, but I'm getting confused between what I've posted here and what I've posted at my board.

Speaking of which, there's a bit more in this topic that Codie posted...Apparently, a couple of enemies are incorrectly displayed for one frame of animation in the game, and there's another unused guard thing like the one that guards Area 2.

While we're talking about a Sunsoft game with a lot of unused content, Hebereke is one that has a lot of interesting things that never got used. There was a thread about it on Lost Levels.



This was a little compilation I took of some of the unused graphics. The palette was just me guessing as to how it might have looked in game.

The ufo guy on the top was gonna be on the title screen.

Second row: An unused Ninja enemy that likely would've crawled along a ceiling and threw ninja stars at you.

Third row: Dunno what the head would've been. The cactus probably would've been a stationary object that hurt the player. The crouching guy looks like Bop Louie, who was the hero of the European version Ufouria. That was the only graphic I could find of him.

Fourth row: The most interesting unused graphics. A guy that looks like Bop Louie and a cat being hung!

Fifth row: What looks to be either a proto design for the protagonist, or it was some kind of clone enemy. He has loads of graphics still in the rom, these are just a sample.

Sixth row: Some unused cat boss. Although this giant cat does appear as a boss at two points in the game, never does he wear that vest.

No problem. Those two giant enemies in the Metafight rom really fascinate me. They actually look really cool; its a shame they got the axe. Maybe they were going to be bosses you had to fight in Sophia? One complaint about the game I remember hearing from some people is that all the boss battles were only in the overhead sections, and that you never got to fight any of them in the car.

I wonder if they weren't some kind of mini-boss or something too. Like, you'd have to beat them up in the later areas to continue on toward the boss.

Those long, horizontal areas in Level 7 seemed to always be a little strangely empty for my tastes...

I couldn't find any unused graphics in NES Kid Icarus, but I just now thought to check the Game Boy sequel, Of Myths & Monsters, and I found something really awesome!



There are parts for a winged goat and several lion faces in with the boss graphics. Very likely they're all pieces for an unused Chimera boss.

This game's level structure is pretty much the exact same as the NES game, so an additional stage that got cut is not a very likely explanation for this thing's existence. Most likely it was an early boss that got replaced with one of the others during development.

Managed to piece together some of it...



Those pieces below the compiled images I'm pretty sure go with this boss, too, but I couldn't figure out how to get them to fit.

Very interesting. Seems like this boss was worked on, but not completed. Either that, or some of its parts were overwritten with another boss's sprites when it got replaced.

This isn't the most earth-shattering find in the world, but even though the ending of Karnov was removed from the American version of the game, the graphics for it still exist in the American version's ROM.

Yeah, that's fairly common in US games. MetalStorm's intro is another good example, except in that case the code is still in the ROM, and was even "localized" a bit.

I think I found an weird discovery in SM64, in the Wet Dry World background. It seems a bit of a uncanny coincidence that it just happened to feature a pyramid with 4 pilers surrounding it. It's probably just a Easter-Egg or something

That's...clearly not a pyramid. It's an ancient-looking building with towers/spires (think Atlantis).

May not be quite that, but I love things like this. Things of The Scenery Doing It and revealing all the stuff that didn't make it out of beta, but designers forgot to change. =P

I mean, look at Zelda 64. The Adult Market shows the original Hyrule Market without the Happy Mask Man Shop. See here: http://zeldapower.com/images/beta_oot/5betahyrulemarkt.bmp

You can see the same market if you stand outside Hyrule Castle Town from Hyrule Field and look close enough at the images on the way in. =P

...Yeah, way too much free time. ^^;;

(Its really become a pain to find beta Zelda 64 shots since the Zelda Coalition and Zelda Chaos went byebye... ^^;; )

Not really a recent discovery, but this happened when I was a kid.

I was playing Mega Man 2 and I got one of the bats in Wood Man's stage to drop an E-Tank when it died. It only happened to me once on a cart, weirdly enough. I then heard that there's unused code to have E-Tanks drop in there. Is that actually the case that the game accidentally called upon some typically unused code?

If so, that'd definitely be something to post.

I've had Secret of Mana do bizarre things like that to me. I've sometimes gotten a weapon orb from a randomly-dropped treasure chest. I know you're supposed to sometimes get the remaining orbs in the Mana Fortress, but I once got one from a chest dropped by one of those Funk cloud enemies in the Ice Country.

Then again, that game is known for being ridiculously glitchy.

Years ago, a friend of mine got the most powerful sword in Landstalker way at the beginning of the game. On more than one occasion.

Then again, that game seems to forget which key items have already been acquired (I found the Sun Stone again, long after I had given it away), so I'm not really surprised.

There's a glitch in the NES Might & Magic that can cause the last item in the lead character's inventory to change into another item (they cycle through a set list). One time I accidentally caused the glitch while messing around in the menus and I ended up with a strange item early in the game that you normally would need to complete a very specific quest much later in the game to get.

I also figured out some way to equip a projectile weapon on a character that could not normally do so by manipulating the menus a certain way.
