My immediate reaction: It's a bit strange that the right side of the image should be over on the left. That line is distracting, and once you notice that it's because the picture is split up oddly, .. it's rather bothersome.

I don't see that effect at all... maybe it's a resolution thing?
It looks good here, the outline effect seems to do a decent enough job of making it readable on the background.

 The image is nice, but it's kinda hard to read text on it. I suggest darkening it so that text can be easily readable even on the brighter portions of the image..

I'm using 1360 x 768, so... yeah. The bright part is what I see in the left side of every line, where I start reading.
I know however how difficult it can be to do a layout, so I won't mind if you don't fix it. It just is eye-lasering me. :p
