Darn you Celux with your amazing level editing skills. Oh well, here is my newest level anyway (BTW this may or may not be included in my hack depending on if people actually like this level)

SM64 - Christmas Carnival Special (Download)
Since you have been waiting for Star Road over a year now, I decided it would be nice to give you a taste of the kind of level design that will be in the finished hack without spoiling anything. I have done this by, rather then releasing a demo (which i will not be doing), creating a completely new level for you to try out (not attached to SR in any way) as a small but fun Christmas themed treat. The hack contains 3 stars of varying difficulty. Enjoy, and merry Christmas!

Nah, you're just more productive than most of us
My only complaint with a lot of your levels is that there tend to be a lot of texture mapping issues. Like at 1:58, the inner wall is all skewed, and at 2:25 the entire outer wall is all stretched. Your level design is clearly more inspired than mine, but even still, they appear a little, I dunno, empty? Maybe that's because of the lack of enemies and platforms and coins and all that. Your brick textures are pretty much perfect, same with the textures at 2:49.
You definitely get better with each new level, I'd say, not that I'm a pro or anything. I'd probably start messing around with importing music and Toads Tool and all that tedious stuff.
As for a name...Red Brick Canyon? Dusty Valley Fort? It's sort of a valley....but it's definitely more of a canyon.

Hi, everyone.
Thought I would give you a little peak at some of what's going on in SM64: Wacky Worlds, since my last update on Youtube was of Forest Labyrinth...which was some time ago.
Currently, there's a very early "alpha" demo available on my website, as a lot of you already know.
If you've played it, keep in mind that this is just the first look at the first changes made, and doesn't represent the final quality of the hack.
A few previews here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUk1tvuPeYk
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pUwv6FB8C8&feature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_s5TAWBMYE&feature=related
What this hack is about:
Mario is in Subcon again (Mario's subconscious world from SMB2). Collect all Sanity Stars and restore the Grand Sanity Star!
Along the way, you'll meet goofy and demented characters, and even one who has a symbolic message to share.
The hack is comprised of four towns and a small hub, all inside of a vast kingdom known as Marythorn.
In each town, there are three main levels and at least one bonus.
The layout and designs of the hubs were hugely inspired by the canceled game, Earthbound 64.
As for the music used; it includes songs from N64, GB, GBA, and SNES games. Most of the tracks were ripped with various tools, instead of using midis from different authors on VGMusic.
Also, here's something I could use some opinions on... I have just one last level I need to figure out how to use. It must be a main level with 7 stars.
I was thinking maybe a field level in the main town... But that's just about it.
Anyone have any suggestions as to what I could do with this level? Your opinions are appreciated.
A few screensies:
The princess isn't as nice as most of the others you've seen in Mario games.
Custom title screen made from the modified "PRESS START" text function.
An arrow lift challenge in Marythorn. Are there too many?
8-Bit Land. Most of the level is comprised of a variety of objects, instead of just an imported level.
Mario in town.
That's all for now!
Please make any suggestions or ask questions you might have.
I will be needing opinions from several people, as well as soon-to-come testing.
I know there isn't much for me to show at the moment, but we're getting there.

SM64 Star Road - Melting Snow Peaks (Major Hack P6)
With 7 complete levels and various others well toward completion, Star Road has come quite far now and has 43 finished stars out of the planned 121. The level in the video is Melting Snow Peaks, possibly my favorite so far.
The mod-boss at the end is quite tricky, so I barely even get a chance to show him before I get kicked off the map .
Hope you enjoy the preview, and I appreciate any feedback!

Thanks, I try to make every star as interesting as possible : ).
Metalman (assuming you will read this), is it ok if I make a thread for sm64 star road? I ask this because there are a fair few previews now, and i'd like to group them together. |

Hi everybody I'm a new here but i'm familiar with rom hacking. started hacking with nes roms but usually end as trash.
Anyway this video which I just post up in youtube is not really a rom hack. But I change most of the music in the game. It really interesting. Tell me what you think.
If the annotations bother you. You can turn them off.

Yes, Celux. Interesting design as usual. Maple Treeway... I thought I recognized that song.
Does seem kind of plain in terms of objects... But that's just about it for me. I understand you still have ways to go, but you might want to look into that.
Meltfire, yes, it's fun to just take some midis and import them into SM64 for the first time... Reminds me of how amazing MML2M64 was to me when it first came out.
But since you asked... I don't really get it. I can't recognize the music and it sorta hurts my ears.

THE WHOLE THING? Dude you need a flashier title. Make sure to use plenty of asterisks. Quality wise though, yeah the imported music tends to sound like a mess of notes, however I don't really have any right to talk in regards to that
Like Dudaw said, music importing at first is fascinating. And it's really easy to impress people with it just because it's so damn nifty. But if I were you, if you're good with music you should start working on making original compositions. Or start rearranging midis from vgmusic. I'm just saying, that's what I've been attempting to do for awhile now.
Also in regards to Skelux's level, if you were to add anything I'd say maybe put in some Goombas. I think object-wise it's fine as is, but it does seem to lack a good number of enemies.

Thanks for mentioning that. While I was busy adding in coins and trees I felt something was missing, but i just ignored it.
I've added a fair few enemies now, hopefully enough to fix those plain bits. |

Hello everyone! I mention earlier that I was going to post my first major hack as soon as I learn how... 8-/ I started but I were not sure where to start. After spenting some time in FAQ thread (thanks everyone BTW) I learn the concepts and some other basic skill on creating my hack rom. So here it is!
Maestro Mario 64
<object width="425" height="344"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/PBSQjOT8FX4?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
There will be a demo but I think I just go start making the full game instead.
(same info posted in youtube video)
Here what I'm going for..
The full game will have
8 - 10 main levels,
10 - 12 side levels including the three caps levels
70+ plus stars.
Main over-world (Precious Palace) with 3 area.
Custom musics for all sequence (including the End Level and Collect Star Theme).
Custom background for all level (as seen in part 2)

| Looks interesting Meltfire, but I need to rant about texture scaling. The first two screenshots are fine in that respect, but the last three repeats the textures too many times in constricted spaces. If you change that I think your levels will look much better. |

SM64 and the Other Dimensions Update:Hello, everyone. You may have seen my video of my best level yet. If not, take a look:
<object width="550" height="385"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/cdiWArgqejw?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="550" height="385"></embed></object>
Anyway, that level has some terrain added to it. RDX Suggested me to post this up here so here it is.
Here are some screen shots of the progress in my SM64 hack, SM64 and the Other Dimensions:
<--- Custom Behavior Grand Star
<--- Inside the sunken ship
<--- level currently in progress
<--- Custom Behavior, Grand Star
<---*****
<---*****
I'm still in the progress of many other levels, but 2 levels that are 100% completed are Treetop Tower and Gusty Gulch Valley. I am also working on a lot of music hacks, and I've finished quite a few, including Gourmet Race, Paper Mario Mini-boss, Gobi's Valley, BattleRock Galaxy, Purple Comet (From SMG) and a few others. A few other hacks are being made, maybe even ASM hacks, once I learn how. My next level may include raising lava if I learn how to properly make an ASM hack. Enjoy!
***** ---> Oh and one more thing: The moon in the picture is like from SMW, I gave it a custom behavior for a 3-up, and the logs I was standing on raise and lower.

I have been working on other levels since my last post but I thought I show this specific level as it follows feedback from Messiaen who told me to try starting of with small detailed parts, and then add upon them until the level feels complete (which I did ).
