Since I won't be there personally (I forgot to register before September 30th for free), I will be following a lot of the blog websites that are there. So far it looks like 3D TVs are going to be the main attraction this year again. Even more so than last year. A lot of manufacturers are getting on the bandwagon. IMO, 3D TVs that use active shutter glasses look the best and are the least strenuous on your eyes. But the glasses-free ones look promising. But if what Nintendo says about glasses-less 3D tech is true, then it won't catch on as much due to possible harm to young children's eyes.

Anyway, I'll be posting what I find interesting here. Let me know what you find, too.

4k Glasses-Free 3D TV

Mock iPad2 case (like Apple has ever announced anything new at CES...)

Here's a good sign that AT&T is losing iPhone exclusivity in 2011:

AT&T launching 12 Android devices in 2011

Thats a lot of android devices. Here is a sample of one of them:

Samsung Infuse 4G

Unfortunately, AT&T is getting in to the false 4G hype. Its only HSPA+ and not their LTE network (which is only starting to roll out in 2011 sometime). And even the LTE network is not true 4G. According to ITU-R, true 4G speeds should be 100Mbit/s.

Looks like Windows 8 will be supporting ARM in the future. It'll be interesting to see the details of how they plan to do this...

Paulguy's Post configuration
Eh, windows 7 starter is installed on low end netbooks. By the time windows 8 comes around, there will be handhelds powerful enough to run a stripped down version of whatever windows 8 will be, if they go along the same lines as 7.

Also 100Mbit/s from a mobile network is absolutely ridiculous. Most people don't even get that from landline internet, and AT&T's network is choked enough as it is. They marketed too much and didn't invest enough in their infrastructure, so rather than fixing the situation, they screw the customer.

Honestly, I don't imagine there will be much for innovation this CES. That's pretty much died off entirely in recent years. It's all just flashy and gimmicky, now. Few actual improvements. Least amount of work and money put in as they can.

Usually there is still some really interesting stuff there but most of the focus goes on the big name brands and they follow the trends.

Not everyone knows this but CES is also home to a car show. Tesla unveiled their Model S

Looking pretty sweet for an electric car. Looks like a standard luxury sedan.

Also, the new Geordi Laforge glasses... or head mounted 3D display.

Here's one of the cool techs from CES thats not hyped up:

Liquid Crystal auto focusing glasses

They auto adjust the focal range with a gyroscope built in to the sides. Pretty neat stuff.

It's interesting to hear some stuff about Surface 2, though.

And... bleh, 3D. Tablets aren't quite as boring, but still...

Looks like it might not just be just low-end portable machines running Windows ARM, if nVidia has its way...

This hybrid looks sexy and its not a car.

<object width="640" height="390"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/UiQ0AnlfBu4&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="390"></embed></object>

As for its functionality, I think it would be ok for slower paced games but for twitch FPS or MMO type games, not a chance. Even RTS games like SC2 would be at a disadvantage on a system like this. Really interesting concept though. Its basically a laptop with a built in Optimus Maximus keyboard.

On a side note, the first guy's voice sounds like he could convince you anything he says is true.

Do they say how much it's going to cost?

I meant as far as controls go. From what I heard, its touch screen instead of a trackpad. Not very productive for FPS or MMO games. At least not if you want to be good. Sure you could get a mouse but that defeats the purpose of being mobile.

Here are some more details and physical prototype.

Still no full list of specs or price as they're likely to change before this actually ships.

Excessive/Stupid ideas from CES 2011:

Blu-ray audio disc player for cars

Lady Gaga Polaroid Camera Glasses

Bluetooth watch

And most people think tablets are overpriced/excessive items. Depends on the user, but mostly they are.
