I'm at this High School somewhere doing a night course for computer concepts.

There are a few adults, one retarted, and it's all them learning. I'm just here for credits...

Our first stuff she is teaching...Let me type it up from the packet.

"In this tutorial you will:

- Start and shut down Windows 98

- Identify the objects on the Windows 98 desktop

- Practice mouse functions

- Run software programs and switch between them

- I'm not even going to list any fucking more stupidity.

This shit is bad. I can't believe I am going to take this like, for 10 weeks, once a week for like an hour and a half. They have everything possible here blocked via keyword, so webbased proxies are a no. Right click is disabled on everything by Microsoft Word, and no windows + (insert key) shortcuts work. The Start menu is comprised of "Programs", Shut Down, and Log Off. Ctrl-Alt-Del is broken as is anything else. Even functions in MSPaint are broken (Wallpaper setting). This is terrible. I better bring in some shit on a jump drive. A NES emulator...At least that and maybe some other stuff.

I agree with you man, this IS bullshit
I am in MIDDLE SCHOOL and our fricken computers at least function better than yours do. Besides the fact that we had a retarded computer teacher last year, it was decent.
but yours just sucks

It's not the computer that is the problem right about now, she is still teaching people how to save files on Word.

Machi-Machi v. Kyan!
That would be 'Office Applications' and there are, unfortunately, a GOOD amount of people that need this class.

You forget that you go to a technology-based forum with a lot of people 'in the know'.

Why in the world do you think there are tech-support horror stories?

Eh. My response to such classes is to amaze people as I easily answer all questions. In fact, doing so caused me to get hired as a TA--good pay, I must say.

Thus, knowing it and taking the class anyway isn't all boring--it can be profitable in some circumstances.

But then again, Highschool sucks anyway.

So you can;t right click to create shortcuts, or save notepad files as .bat?
Have fun with the boredom, and yeah the above people are right about some people needing it.

Interestingly enough, my high school never had a computer concepts requirement.

I am very thankful.

That program must've came out 10 years ago. With the times? :\

I recall fucking with teachers when I was in the seventh grade. I 'took out' a system without them really know what the hell was wrong with it. Every time they would load Windows 95 it wouldn't load all the way for them. They kept scratching their head and thought it was a virus. Eventually, they ended up reinstalling and reformatting the computer itself.

You know what it was?

Infinite loop in AUTOEXEC.BAT placed:

>>>

@echo off
cls
autoexec.bat

>>>

They didn't have anyone bright enough to fix the problem or press CTRL+C.

Let me restate this.

This isn't my High School. It's some other high school. It's an adult night course for science credits but apparently computer concepts fits into science.

I'll tell you this...it's somewhat better than being around people that are in a C++ class because they thought it would be an easy elective for them. It's even worse when you're one of a select few (if the only one) that can actually answer the questions posed by the instructor at any given time.

That makes you a target for the STUPIDEST questions...but it does factor into 120 a week if done right.

Actually...I'm in VB6 right now also. Noone but me cares about the class, and since everyone goofs off and is loud, I can't concentrate. I'm still managing, but everyone knows that I am really into computers so the jokes got old years ago.

Well if it is THAT basic, it may be boring, but it is an easy credit.

"And that doesn't work?"

Keep note that the person that did that was a doctor.

And yeah, those kind of classes are dumb. I had to deal with similar issues in Web/Digital Design, but instead of the students not knowing what to do, my teacher had no idea what to do.
