I remember reading that a lot of anti-car laws designed to make life really inconvenient/impossible for car owners were proposed around the time automobiles first became popular...

And at least in Massachusetts a lot comes from the Puritans... yaay

Arizona has quite a few weird laws as well, such as only being able to protect yourself with the same weapon as the criminal and women in Tuscon being unable to wear pants.

I haven't worn pants in months, unless you count leggings under a dress or skirt. It's still a dumb law and I defend the right of women to wear pants, though

(And I defend the right of for men to wear skirts. I occasionally see them in Seattle.)

Also, lollipops are banned in Washington, as is the sale of mattresses on Sundays.

A slightly-less stupid law in Washington is that you have to have a trash bag in your car at all times for trash, AND a clean ash-tray, to keep change in, I guess.

My mom actually does keep a trash can in her car. If I rode in a different car, I'd wonder where the trash can is.

I had a teacher who rather proudly told us that she eats breakfast and brushes her teeth in the car on the way to school.

Of course, this was in the Thumb, so traffic wouldn't me much of an issue

I don't like eating in a car, it's rather uncomfortable.

The last time I did that (not counting my 3-hour-long bus trips to Washington which include an hour long trip to Philly, another hour waiting for the DC bus and a 30 minute ride in the DC metro) was way back when I went to Florida with my brother ... and that's because we spent almost 20 hours on the car non-stop (except for gas).
