That video is awesome. I wonder if they can get a PPP connection with a dialup ISP to work over that. I don't see why not.

As for posting from odd devices, I often post from my droid 2, which isn't anything odd That's about it, unfortunately.

I've used an iPad occasionally at work for testing purposes.

While it is a pretty piece of hardware, I'd never get one myself.

I once used a 2400 baud modem when I was younger.

It was ONLY one time. Dear lord that thing was a snail.

I think posting from iProducts is easy, but I'm going to avoid them like the plague, unless it's just an iPod. iPhone is butchered. Android is so much better.

Android is crap but in a different way, especially for a developer or someone who just wants to do some linux stuff on it. The userland is complete garbage, and the kernel isn't so great, either. I could understand them stripping it down for phone 4 or 5 years ago, because they were very weak, but to be honest, a decent debian system running xfce performs better on weaker systems than android does on systems that I've used. Of course, it wouldn't be xfce but it should be a more typical linux kernel and userland, also more readily compatible with existing libraries, so we don't get a ton of shitty half-baked apps that we have now. I honestly can't think of 1 app that I find myself particularly satisfied with. They pretty much all suffer from some horrible flaw or are buggy, when I could possibly use a slightly modified xchat or pidgin, which is well developed and mature, and would just need some adjustment to be small screen friendly.

I really think Google needs to rework a lot of how Android works, but they won't because they're making money on it already and nobody who matters cares about the problems it has, and they're not going to spend any more money than they have to because they're just another big evil corporation.

This whole thread gives me an idea... Perhaps the page numbers within a thread can be made larger on iOS devices?

I constantly find myself misfiring because they're so small.

Pinch to zoom! But yeah, programming a version for iOS would be nice.

There's already a mobile version that works on Android, probably could add a check for iphone OS for whatever does that for Android. And yeah, bigger numbers for that would be great, or at least spread out, and more space between post listings too. Touch detection in Android is dodgy at best, and I'm always hitting the wrong link because they were too close together, and this would probably help many other people with mobile browsers.

Also, in cases of threads like this one, a limited page number list would be nice. Something like "1 ... 780 ... 880 881 882 883". That would help for mobile devices.

I've considered it repeatedly (don't forget I have a Blackberry, too ).

It's just a lot of work, especially when there are already a lot of layout hacks along the code.

I don't mind the page numbers at all... but can we please disable the no layout for mobile devices thing?

(And enable it for something, like, elinks)

I remember trying to keep up with a spree from my Blackberry Curve many moons ago. The no layout thing helped with load times and visibility. On newer iOS or Android devices, its nice to see layouts but pages can take longer to load from all the images. What phone are you using, Sanky?

yeah, a link to enable/disable mobile layout would be nice. even for if regular desktop people want to use it for whatever reason.

I remember when I was on another computer and could only use IE6 last summer it was much more convenient to use mobile sites... though in the case of Jul it's not like the desktop site has that much fancy stuff going on...

I'm sure if I got the Apple SE out of the basement and posted, I'd make a thread about it too.

Also, I'm debating whether or not to buy an iPad. I won't do it now, because I'm saving money for a highly expensive camera, but maybe around September or so. I have a laptop, a phone, and an iPod nano (2nd gen); so it makes me wonder if I'd really need it all that much. What do you guys think?

I'm not sure what's so great about the iPad. I always see people who get one and do nothing with it. But then again all my friends prefer really powerful machines..

Oh god, I remember browsing the board in Links/Elinks on my DS.

Whole fucking pages of page numbers. Not that fun.

I used to read wikipedia in bed on the DS, in Linux.
