| Whoa, Splatterhouse is on there, which I actually enjoyed quite thoroughly... but not the best game of this year.
For all the hype around Mass Effect 2 and Halo Reach, the game that snagged my attention this year... was Nier. While it's a flawed game in some respects, the storytelling is top notch, especially once you start the New Game+. Unlike some other games I could mention, the NG+ actually adds new story elements for each loop, for the sections you've already played through. Also, the Forest of Myth is, hands-down, the greatest moment in gaming this year, and possibly this decade. Beautiful, beautiful game. One of these days, I'll write up a thread about it. ____________________ |

| Mass Effect 2.
Although the final battle was a little less epic than in the first game (imho) and having a smaller Citadel, but more friendly places in the game, ME2 had a lot of improvements over the first game. And that M-920 Cain rocks. Kinda nice revenge if your enemies actually let you use that thing - long charging time, a hella lot of ammo for that one shot; but it is priceless to see entire boss hitpoint/shield bars depleting in one go  ____________________  |

| Looks like SMG2 is taking this by a landslide! Does not shock me one bit. ... It's my vote, too. It's probably one of the best games we'll ever see, and definitely the best platformer ever made.
Edit: Also Castlevania deserves 0 votes. Forever. They just sort of threw the name Castlevania on there to get it to sell. ____________________  |
