The Google Watchdog - Spam and virus sites infesting the Google SERPs in several categories

... Interestingly enough, searching for "fat catgirl" (sans quotes) causes results like those to hit the first page of results. I've also noticed fake sites like those popping up since last month, as well.

My favorite line: "The length of time it's taking is scary, but I'd rather they fix the issue than put a band aid on the problem (Microsoft are you paying attention?) hoping it will go away."
Note the parentheses

In all seriousness, this is bad...except I put in a bunch of different search words (including the one you mentioned hydra ) and no .cn sites came up. So ...

I've tried using other search engines, but I've always had the best success with Google, and this probably won't get me to stop using it...

It is a problem though, hopefully it'll be fixed soon enough..

Google became my search engine of choice when I had dial-up because it was the one that took the least time to load.

I still use it out of habit, I guess...

Machi-Machi v. Kyan!

I swear if this turns into a holy war about Yahoo! vs. Google I'm going to support Kas's statement of 'damn nerds'.

More like an unholy war.

Drag's Post #277
I originally used Yahoo all the time, but I switched to Google when I realized my interest in dragons, and so I would search for pictures of dragons on Google, because they claimed to search through a very large number of sites.

Ever since then, I just always used Google... it was fast and easy, and dial-up friendly.

I don't use Yahoo's search, but I play their games every now and again. At one point, Yahoo's search results were even provided by Google.

Also, don't forget the main number one rule-of-reality of the internet: Popularity means both use and abuse. (I made that up all by myself! )

This is very interesting...

The page "http://mslt.lrvwvduafb.cn/" (picked at random) redirects to "http://mystats.name/in.php", which then redirects to several different pages.

http://thesuperxxx.com/images/489/2/
http://gomyhit.com/MTc3ODk=/2/5790//
http://clean.systemerrorfixer.com/MTgwODg=/2/5790/ed=1/ex=1//
http://scanner.spyshredderscanner.com/5/?advid=1627
http://81.95.149.130/in.php?adv=129
http://tds.revsp.com/in.cgi?default&cmp=1950&reject_url=http%3A%2F%2Fmystats.name%2Fin.php%3F2
http://www.tastesdiffer.com/

These probably contain redirects to other pages. The question is, how far down the rabbit hole are you willing to go?

Google searches returning a lot of crap is nothing new. It's just a matter of what you look for. Put in the part number of any random microchip, for example, and you'll get dozens of sites containing nothing but some ads and giant lists of part numbers.

I dare say a bigger problem is that characters like \ & * etc are ignored. Makes searching for code-related things impossible at times. >:[

(Also, "fat catgirl" just got me some animé sites and this board. )

They WERE! Or at least *SOMETHING* was provided by Google. When you searched on Yahoo, one of the things on the page was "Results provided by Google" or something like that. *Something* provided by google.

Yeah, but the interface of Yahoo is less dumb than Google's, plus it came first. Google pretty much aped Yahoo and updated on their search engine. Yahoo, in turn, would obviously work to counter that... and in the meantime, use Google's technology.

But, yeah. This happening is a handy salvo against Google.
