All I know is that I am going to go with Oshawott on my first play through.
I also tend not to nickname my Pokemon on my first run so that I can learn their names better.

I think I will also be using Oshawott, though, I haven't been following this so I don't know if the grass one might be better (I'm absolutely NOT using the fire type, it's so ugly )

Using the grass type in any pokemon game beside the first one is a major downer. :/

(And yes, I can say for sure it's the same here, sadly.)

I wish they would just make it so that each starter at least provide a somewhat same experience.

They do if you balance your team. Try a nuzlocke or something of some of the games. You'll have to balance your team and get ones for countering or the E4 will RAPE you.

Yeah, if you overlevel your starter it's different, but even then it's "Use heavy hitting move. Use it again."

The problem is that at the start of each game you usually face bug, flying, normal and rock types a lot more then any other types. A grass type have issues with two of them.

Not to mention getting a grass or water type later in the game is much easier then getting a fire type. Sure you can make a balanced team anyway, I get that, but it just seams more worthwhile in general to go for a water or fire starter over a grass one. Where as in generation one this still holds true, but grass type was still a good pick with that it was double type AND had advantage to most of gyms. Picking a grass starter in gen 2 was the worst idea ever as it would be an uphill battle against the first two gyms.

Anyhow, I don't really have any issues catching other pokemons to train, but I want to find ones that I like before I decide on it. :<

Makes sense, Lunaria. I wish they would ditch the concept of giving us a Pidgey and Rattata clone at the start of every game

They should be more creative and start the game in a different environment, like a mountain or desert

Mountain? Spearow clone - see GSC.

Desert? Some weak vulture.

There is no escaping.... the birds.

They're coming for you in every game.

I say they should just use Bidoofs as the first things you can catch.

Can anyone with the Japanese version tell me what's the average normal type Pokemon you find at the very beginning of the game? Is it at least cute and good?

I liked Zigzagoon.

It's a small dog like that evolves into a bigger dog like. Although I don't know if it's good or not as I opted to skip it. I prefer a team of three with some good elemental set ups rather then a team of six with more variation.

Ahh, you mean this cute little puppy that evolves into this atrocity?

What happened to cute Pokemon like Arcanine and Wigglytuff?

It seems as if most of the Pokemon in this gen. have lost the cuteness.

I mean compare Machop and its evolutions to Dokkora and its evolutions. Especially the first evolution of Dokkora since you will be able to capture it in the wild. Seriously, if I ran into that thing in the grass I would run as fast as I can trying not to piss myself. For the love of god, it's holding a steel girder!

You're right, I looked through the Pokemon on Serebii and I didn't like most of them ... but I think Chillarmy makes up for all that :O

I dunno, the formula hasn't changed much.

Small cute pokemon evolves into big ugly pokemon. Styling is a bit more sophisticated nowadays though.

Really all I have to say on the matter. One can argue that the old ones looked nicer, but you still have to face the fact that you're bit older now then when you played the originals and nostalgia can very well be bad for you.

That comic is awesome! I have to show it to my friends who've also been complaining that the new Pokemon are ugly.

Eh, I don't really see what's so good about many of the older ones...
(then again, I like [trope=RuinedFOREVER]Hoenn[/trope] the best...)

Anyways America gets the games on March 6. Europe on November 30, 2012.

Is the patch good? How much of the game has been translated so far?

So far it seems really nice. They kept making new ones for awhile and everything I saw so far (up to the 3rd gym) was translated.

Plus, when the game is released in the US you can just use same save.
